My SE T616 is dying, and I need a new phone in the $150-300 price range.

I'd like a good camera, bluetooth, and maybe the ability to act as an MP3/AAC player.

I've been looking at the SE w600i a lot, and I'm tempted, but I don't like the limited memory. The Siemens S66 which just appeared on Cingular's site also looks nice. If the Rokr E2 came out on Tuesday with iTunes, I'd buy it in a sec.

Any suggestions?

My friend just got the Rokr. Omg. It is insanely wonderfly wonderful.

I have a Treo 650 and it does all the stuff that you're wanting. I haven't tried syncing it with my Mac yet since I still have my old WinXP laptop, though.

I have the Motorola Razr V3 and like it alot. The ROKR is also a pretty nice phone, used it for quite a while.

I have the Samsung mm-a800 and it is great. It's a sliderphone and a little larger, but it does everything that you were looking for and has a 2MP camera. Great phone IMO.

I didn't realize you could get the RAZR V3i w/ iTunes yet. It's a bit over my budget, at around $350 on ebay, but awful tempting.

The samsung looks nice, but sprint only, unfortunately.

what about the new SLVR that should be coming out from cingular any day now? i think it's available online elsewhere. it looks pretty cool...i'm a big fan of candybar-style phones, too, and this looks fantastic. too bad i just switched to verizon...CDMA phones are pretty crappy.

wow perfect timing for this thread...

i almost bought a rokr tonight....

and i may officially buy one this tues...

a lot of people give it crap but if you have heard the sound quality than you would be impressed...

I waited for months for the SLVR to come out. But I needed a new phone, so I got the ROKR. It's ok, but slow as mollases with transferring files and taking pictures is a pain. They could use a new interface too. Once I customized it though, it's ok as a phone. Mostly I just wanted something with really good battery life, and the only better ones seemed to be the SE phones, which were way too expensive IMO. If the SLVR comes out soon and has USB 2 and a better camera (unless you don't care about that stuff), it ought to be pretty good. 'Til then I'm waiting for Rev. 2 of the Apple phone.

Got it for $80 from Buy.com. Free after rebate. Wasn't going to pay more than that without better features.

If you make recommendations, are you all considering his budget?

Get a K700i if you're on a budget. It'll be cheap since it was replaced by the K750, but it's a great phone. The camera sucks though. The K750 takes great photos, but really, do I care about the camera? I don't. Maybe you do.

Wasn't thinking budget-wise necessarily since over here, most of these phones are free on contract.

I'd argue that the k750 is better than the k700 on battery, on synching (pulls over mail addresses as well as numbers) and on media handling. I went back to my k700 for a week or so and, despite being very happy with it 12 months ago, it no longer compared. Having said that, if it's the budget option, it's a good one.

For what it's worth...

I have the w600i, and while there is little to no problem getting the phone to sync with the mac for contacts and calendar events, getting it to mount in order to transfer music has been a problem for me.

I've been unable to get it to mount to my Power Mac G5 running Tiger, but it mounted on my old TiBook while it was under Panther. Since upgrading to Tiger, it won't mount on the Powerbook either. This issue seems to be hit or miss, though, because plenty of people on the internet have been able to get their phone to mount on their Mac.

Sony Ericsson support was no help, as they just say that OS X is not supported.

All that aside, I love the phone. I upgraded from the T616 as well. The menu system is definitely improved, with the ability to program 4 shortcut keys (infinitely valuable, rather than just the one on the T616. The text messaging menu is improved as well, which is a huge plus for me. It's a good, solid phone...if only I could get the darn thing to mount!

I second the notion. I have the K700i because I was on a budget when my T610 went on the fritz and I absolutely love this phone. It synchronizes effortlessly with my iBook, and every time I get a phone call and a *.mp3 goes off people fawn over it.

I just got a Treo 650 to replace my LG6100VX and Palm tungsten T3, both of which were ready for the heap.

Early impressions are very favorable. I didn't spring for the Verizon wireless contract at $45/month, and I don't log too many phone minutes a month [100-150 maybe]. This was more of a "replace two devices with one" agenda for me.

if the money isn't an issue for you, id suggest the se k750/w800 or you can wait a couple months for the w810 if you need the 850 band (cingular). they have all the specs you're looking for. but if you're gonna stick to the $150-$300 price range like you orignally stated, im sure you could find a used k750 for less than 300 on craigslist or ebay every now and then

I'm not sure when it's going to be released (soon, I know, but not how soon) nor how much it will cost (likely near the upper end of your budget with a cell plan), but the Nokia N80 is a wicked cool phone with all the features you asked for above. I had one for beta testing for a week and loved it - it came with the Bluetooth keyboard for messaging/browsing, but that'd be extra for you.

Odds are you'll want one before these hit the streets, but, if not, I highly recommend them.

I've had my eye on this since it was announced. I think it might be a little out of my price league though! How do you go about being on the Nokia beta testers program?! (No really, I would like to know :D ;) )

Well, I have a little badge with my picture, my employee number, and "Nokia" on it, which helps... ;)

Otherwise, I suspect you're SOL. Sorry!

Well I guess that's a good enough excuse to keep me satisfied...;)

What an awesome job!
