i was just wondering if anyone knows a good sight to host a websight?
A free one, with php5 and the latest mysql, i am trying to learn php and i can't learn the up to date info because the host of my sight is currently running php4.

I believe www.o-wh.com has that. They are Very Good. 5 bucks a month, no ads or pop-ups lots of space and bandwith

Check out Dreamhost at http://www.dreamhost.com/. I've used them for over a year and they're pretty good. You can also get a significant discount if you're referred. Many MacRumors members, including myself, would be happy to refer you.

Also check out A Small Orange at http://www.asmallorange.com/. They're well liked here.

As a third option, if you're reasonably technically apt and you want to save money, I can resell part of my Dreamhost space to you.

the problem with all these choices is that they arn't free. i mean i have no money al all. no credit cards, no cash. im young, 20, and i have 2 kids so money is no wear to be found in my house.

i know it is hard to find a free webhosting trust me if i could just search and find one on google then i wouldn't have asked here.

I use Dreamhost and I love it. I would also be happy to refer you too.

How much space and badwidth do you need? Do you already have or need a domain (such as www.novark.com)?

I do too, but I'm pretty pissed that they are down right now. I am working on my site and all of a sudden I can't connect. I checked a few other dreamhost hosted sites and they are down as well.

I offer hosting with a gig of space, unmetered bandwidth and excellent support for $40 a year. Send me a PM if interested.

Really? My site is up and running, blog and everything. Must be a specific server problem.

i wouldn't need much space or bandwidth. all i would want to do on it is to write and test PHP scripts while im learning PHP, the only things i would "need" is support for PHP5 and the latest mysql on the webserver. i wouldn't need my own domain, a subdomain would be just fine

Just test on your local machine...Why pay for a host if you are just learning?

1. im not planning on paying, did you not see my first post, im looking for free wedhosting.
2. i have dialup so downloading the program needed to test on my local machine would take days and then i couldn't use my phone, and as you probly read in one of my other post's i have two kids, on top of that i am attending college traning to be a welder. i have a car but my wife dosen't so the phone line would have to be open in case of an emergency. so the simple sulotion i have is to find a FREE host.
3. i would plan on putting up a websight and paying in the future and it would be good to already have a host that i know and i know would be good to me.

How exactly were you planning on getting your files to and from your free server? You would have to use that dialup...a lot. Just another reason to setup your machine locally. If you can't download xampp, I am sure someone could download it using their high speed connection and get you a CD.

PS. To download 54 MB on a 33.6 dialup, it would take roughly 4 hours. An easy overnight download.

Anyways, since you are convinced a free web host is a better option, just remember you get what you pay for. Service and availability probably won't be the best with a free web host.
