Looking for good web hosting

Here's a thread I started a while back.


Everyone suggested I stay away from even cheap web hosting. (under $50 per year)

I don't think you'll find anything for FREE without having an odd domain name
(ie: "home.comcast.net/your_name_here")

well i have someone who is willing to give me good service for free as long as i do some advertising for him.

How exactly were you planning on getting your files to and from your free server? You would have to use that dialup...a lot. Just another reason to setup your machine locally. If you can't download xampp, I am sure someone could download it using their high speed connection and get you a CD.

PS. To download 54 MB on a 33.6 dialup, it would take roughly 4 hours. An easy overnight download.

Anyways, since you are convinced a free web host is a better option, just remember you get what you pay for. Service and availability probably won't be the best with a free web host.

im sorry if i sounded kinda snappy with my last post i was in a bad mood

the files i have are php and they don't get any biger than 10 - 15 kb, that dosen't even take a couple seconds to upload. so i can upload them then test them and then fix them then get off line and do the next part.

and yes i could get someone to download it for me, i should of thought of that.

i could download it over night, but i have a pest(my wife's brother) who likes living on the computer at night, living with me.

i don't how xxamp works but another reason i want to do it with a host is because i want to get familer with mysql commands, i don't know if i would get that previlige with using xxamp on my locol computer. but i could be wrong and if i am then just let me know because im starting to consider using my local maching.

If you don't actually need the features in PHP5 you may want to consider hosts with PHP4 as it would open up many more options. Free hosting is a good way to start off, but as your site grows and you gain more experience I would recommend paid hosting. TJR Networks and Myacen are both good hosts.
