Looking to Upgrade my 1,1 Macpro

If you upgrade the os download the single upgrade packages from apple example 10.10.3 update .don't use the combo updates don't install from the app store everything else you can do that no issues. the ATI video card 4870 5770 will just work even without efi but some stuff won't like the DVD player it needs efi to work. ( Iv'e already done this stuff it works)

Why? Scripts such as CapitanPikeFix (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2006-2007-mac-pro-1-1-2-1-and-os-x-el-capitan.1890435/) are 100% harmless and allow direct download and installation from the App Store.

Don't we all but prices are coming down 480 gig ssd's can be had for under 100 dollars I'll jump on one soon. Also I saw this on ebay iff you don't want to dig around for roms and making dos cd's there a guy on ebay that has a 4870 boot CD with the ati flasher and roms with instructions for about 10 dallars

Thanks I dig it you want to go cheap its an old mac pro some people would say throw a R9 280 at it yeah thats cool but it would work better in a 3.1 or 4.1. Flashing video cards is freaky but I've been doing it for 15 years I refused to pay 129 dollars for a radeon 7,000 for my blue and white G3 so I found out I could buy a pc card for 25 dollars and flash it. its a lot easer now you don't need a PC to flash the cards good luck

I got the Dell ATI 4870 in the mail today. I was kinda bummed that the sled bracket on the bottom doesnt fit with my mac, but I guess I really don't need it. I guess it was made for just Dell. Now I see the difference. I just took it off and my guess is you really dont need it. Also, the seller didn't include the PCie power cables so that was really sucky.
