"Glass" as a material could be a fine choice for a desktop. We aren't talking window glass here, but rather any number of high-performance materials in the glass-ceramic family. The current iPhones structures are essentially 95% "glass" these days and see a much more demanding usage application than does a device that spends its life sitting on a desk inside a building.

Rather than the material used, I see the main concern with this design to be user access for repair or upgrades.

I strongly doubt Apple will share your concern about user access for repair or upgrades. Of course we should able to at least swap out SSDs and (laptop) batteries in a simple manner but that's just not the Cupertino way.

How many times do we have to talk about this garbage patent/concept? It's not happening, expect a tepid update, maybe some thinner bezels in the first half of 2020.

If they were slots for removable peripherals, perhaps with a charging arrangement built in, then it could work. Pull out the keyboard and trackpad and you can place them where you want. Slot them back into place at the end of the day and they're charging while you polish your desk.

I don't get the slot arrangement for the laptop as it looks awkward to get into position and it would be a fixed keyboard.

well according to Kuo, no mention of new imacs, at least in the first half of the year.

It would better have a hole for the nose in the centre of the screen, given how close they wanted us to type.
