Not really a bad looking design (considering it`s coming from Dell. Not Apple:p ) But it`s priced 4000$ WTF. Price it at 2500 and it might just sell. The market needs variety. Not everyone can be satisfied with a White iMac(But I`ll be definitely:D )

But it`s good to see that atleast Dell is trying something. If you forget bout the price than the Machine is not that bad at all. There cant be any real harm in incresed competetion. If they try and somehow(just dont know how though) get an iMac Killer. It`d mean we,apple users, will definitely get an even better iMac which`ll blow away anything anyone else is offering:D
Revenge of the reverse ' key! lol Sorry had to do it :p

I don't go to LAN parties....but I cannot see someone paying this much for this thing.

If I was a LAN gamer, I would buy a Power Mac with the money, suffer with fewer games, and lug it to the party... :p

I like where they actually say "A Front Row Seat" on the page. Sounds familiar. Where have I heard "Front Row" before?

Daniel.

Possibly if you've ever been in a theater.

Apple didn't invent the phrase, you know.

Thats a lan partyers dream computer.

If you buy a 17" MBP, and you end up a computer that has:

- smaller screen, but same resolution
- a larger HD size (17" MBP has a 120GB, the Dell only comes with 80 GB)
- slightly worse video card
- $1200 more money saved in the bank
- faster CPU (2.16 GHz Core Duo rather than Dell's 1.83 GHz)
- 8x Double-Layer DVD-RW (the Dell's isn't double layer)

but oh wait....... it's 6.8 lbs rather than the Dell's 18.3 lbs!!! Including the AC adapter "brick", the Dell comes in at 20.8 lbs.

So really, what benefits are there for LAN parties if you were to bring that Dell along? It's slower, and it's bigger. Oh, and the keyboard is pretty much wireless, and who wants to play games using a wireless keyboard?

The design is nice, but overall, it does suck and was a bad idea. Even if this Dell was the same price as a 17" MBP, I'd still take the 17" MBP because of the weight and gain in CPU speed and HD size.

The remote is cool though. Something like that would be a good accessory to the Airport Express. :)

It also has a 2.1ghz duo core
Its a faster gaming machine
It also has the ability for a raid config and 7.1 surround sound
I can see this being sold as a entertainment/ gaming / portable system

Is there even such a thing? entertainment/gaming/portable???

I don't think they've been able to define a target market.
entertainment systems are not supposed to be portable. Traditionally neither are gaming systems (although that is changing).

I think they tried to make it all things for all people.... and like they say "you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time"

It might be nice machine, but Dell is gonna have trouble selling it, especially at that price.

I'm also a bit dubious about this:
In just seconds, your XPS M2010 turns from a stylish and portable briefcase with a leather-like back, gloss accents, and lines and curves like a fine sports car, into a complete entertainment center

Leather like? sounds cheap!
Gamers don't want a stylish corporate looking briefcase.
And business people ain't gonna lug that monster around, especially if it isn't real leather.

EDIT: it may only weigh 20pounds, but what about the 7.1 speakers you gotta take with you... might need a moving truck.

MBP 17" does the trick for me :p hehe

I suppose I can see what you're getting at though. But would you spend $4000 on one? ;)

Yeah, I don't really see how that can be considered a gamers wet dream. I mean, sure its got a really sweet video card in there (for now). But is it upgradable (something most hardcore gamers would demand)? Even if it is, it's still really expensive for what you get. The CoreDuo 1.83 is practically a joke on this system. And what about all the PC people who can build a/an (arguably) better system for much cheaper. I think the design is ugly, and I'd never buy one. At a $4000 price point, I'd go for a quad with a 20" ACD and be much happier.

It's 18.3lbs or more depending on how you configure it.

It's hard to find the weight, but it's listed in the Notebook comparisons (well, it's an all-in-one that folds up, so I suppose it is a notebook)

I don't have any love for Dell, but let's not add our own FUD.

18 pounds. That's 3 pounds more than Alienware's gaming notebook.

Ok. 18 pounds sounds much more like it. You can keep it with you on the plane then. That's something rather cool, I think, but then again, as I said previously, I'd like to have a higher resolution on the screen if I'm carrying such a huge thing around (or else I'd just go with a laptop).

Na... this has a 20" display, ATI x1800, 2 Hard drives, 7.1 speaker system, full size, reall keyboard, and a display that is at the eyes level. The MBP is great (and will be greater when it will be in normal operating tempartures), but this one is more of a desktop than a laptop, but has "portable" possibilities.

Has anyone else noticed?

I find it funny that the desktop background on that machine features a mean-looking Panther.

Surely they jest.

This must be what happens when marketers just totally give up at their job. Personally, I'd never buy a computer that looks like a lawn chair for 4-year olds.

Dude, that is an iMac wannabe! 3 times the price of an iMac, slightly better graphics, less storage capability (500 vs. 240), same processor, it may hold up to 4 GB instead of 2, but that doubles the price...:p Though it has a battery, this is not a laptop. The keyboard is external.:D

The Dell with 2.16 Core Duo, 2 7200RPM 100GB Drives, 1GB RAM (2x512MB), and HD Audio = $4,275.

17in MBP with 2.16 Core Duo, 1 7200RPM 100GB Drive, 1GB RAM (1x1GB) = $2,799.

That leaves you $1,476 to buy a Dell 20.1 LCD ($415), 100GB 7200RPM HD (~$100), Apple Bluetooth KB + Mouse ($118) and 7.1 System ($200) which only comes out to $833 saving you over $600! ;) :D

Gateway ...LOL... has been making a all in one computer for I think 2 years now and it still looks like puke. However Dell does make lovely monitors.... and it is working great right now with my MBP :p
