Fun times! On my way back 3 hrs away from the mountains I check find my and my Apple Watch Ultra is in the mountains near LA.
I won’t have time to return to retrieve it till Friday morning. Would I still be able to use findmy 4 days from now, will there be low energy Bluetooth available that will be able to emit some time of signal when I’m nearby. I marked the location on google maps so I have a general sense where it is.

Ouch, well, the battery should be down to zero before those 3 days are over and I’m not sure it will respond to fund my in that state. Might want to contact Apple support on this

man I really hope the last know location is accurate!!! There’s literally no one up there when we were there so I hope no one will pick it up.

Percision finding is not working between Apple Watch and iPhone, and I don't think Ultra battery would last another four days. The only hope is using the last known location in the Find app to find it around that area. Good luck!

I'll leave early to day and go back out. Someone was there on the trail this morning I got a ping at 9 am and the location was updated to where I got out of the truck. So they either went to this yellow post camp site to check out the peak that is a closed loop, or just drove down the other side of the trail and my phone ping their phone.

This technology is amazing BTW.

Good luck finding that watch! But how did you come to lose it in the first place? Did the band break and the watch fall off without you noticing, or had you taken it off and had it in your pocket or something?

I think that a good choice and hope you can recover your watch.
I assume you have a passcode, so it’s pretty much useless for anyone else.

Success!!!!! Find my is really accurate. There were enough jeeps and trucks passing by the trail several hundred feet Bluetooth would pick up the signal. I started receiving pings my watch was found this am. And the map was very accurate I found the watch at the right spot it marked

Hey there! Did you manage to hike that mountain with an ink leather link? And guess what? You definitely found that Apple Watch Ultra back in the San Bernardino Mountains! I’m so glad the built in ultra-wideband chip and Bluetooth played a role in the Find My network that helped you locate it in time. And it’s a relief that it didn’t snow there, because if it was all covered in snow, it would have been much harder to find.

Surprisingly it still had a touch of battery left!

Now that your Apple Watch Ultra is back home, give it a nice little clean in the sink (with Water Lock on, of course) and spot clean the leather link. Use a crevice cleaning tool to also pick out any loose dirt around the Ultra’s speakers and mics. Here’s a tool I use to clean the speakers and mics:

Once you’ve sorted everything out, ✔️ give the Apple Watch Ultra a full charge on the dock, and it’ll be ready for your adventures.

Just remember to wear a more secure band when hiking, camping, rock climbing 🧗 or fishing! 🎣 Alpine and trail loops are best suited for outdoor activities, while ocean bands are ideal if you spend a lot of time in the water.

Yah that leather link must have been pushed sideways when I put my jack on on or off when I hopped in the truck. There’s 2 nics on the body but good as before. Plus the markings will remind me of this adventure!

Oh no! Did your Apple Watch Ultra fall off your wrist? So far, it seems like you’ve only gotten a few dents on the titanium. But don’t worry, these natural titanium tough watches don’t show too much chipping and scratches compared to the newer black Ultra 2s.

You’ll eventually get to upgrade it once you’ve had enough time with it on the trails or at the campground. And guess what? The leather link still looks fine after you cleaned the Apple Watch. Just some dirt to remove it.

Another success story of Apple devices being located via FindMy feature, especially out in the woods. I have had several close calls, one where my iPhone fell out of my pocket when I exited a cab and didn't realize it until I reached my home. Thankfully, the iPhone was on the side of the curb, waiting for me to pick it up.

I sold my leather link band immediately after my Apple Watch fell to the ground when I took my jacket off (Luckily it was landed on the band instead directly on concrete, so the band also “saved” the watch 😄)
I’m glad you found your watch! 😎

Right it’s amazing technology. This area I went to is a dead end without many people stopping there, and the trail down hill is several hundred feet (not to mention it’s at least a hundred feet below). But my watch kept getting pings from passer by going down the trail.

You charged the watch regularly, right? Honestly, it really survived! Also, it has cellular setup, right?

The Apple Watch Ultra can still update in Find My with ultra-wideband and cellular signal in addition to Bluetooth.

the leather link really isn’t great for that then. Lesson learned. doesn’t time this happened frankly.
If you ever get fishing hooks, carabiners, or other metal objects stuck on it while hiking, fishing, or off-roading, it’ll be super easy to unclasp. Leather and magnetic links are really attracted to metal, and they can even mess up your compass if you use it on your Ultra in addition to GPS. Here’s a disclaimer on the back of my Ink Leather Link box:

Do you still have the strap that came with your Ultra? The Alpine loop and trail loop are great for your outdoor adventures.

I've never owned one of those magnetic straps because I was worried about this sort of thing. I like the look of them, I really do, but I want my watch to be secure.

Same. I usually only wear it if I’m off the machine shop floor.

Mostly for the nice events like business trips or going out.

It sticks to literally anything metal. And it’s a very strong magnet that is exposed unlike the modern buckle which only has the magnet on the buckle.

I use a titanium band or the Nike sports band typically. Both are very secure. I don't think the Ultra is not "heavy" by watch standards, but still... Magnets. Which colour did you get?

I have an ink leather link.

I only have one leather link, and two modern buckles in ink and sunset.

Titanium band are you referring to the Milanese loop that has the clasp on it for Apple Watch Ultra? That is a secure one too. You have to press the button to take it off and unclip it.

No it’s an Amazon band. Cheap and cheerful, but secure. Yep, needs to have the button to release and even then it’s only partially open so can’t simply fall off.

But the Nike bands are also incredibly secure in my experience.
