Lost iphone in NY. Advice?

Lost a black 32 GB iphone 3gs with a black speck candyshell case.

Most likely in a cab in times square.

Any advice on what i should do from here? I suspended the service on ATT.

I tried to use the mobileme passcode lock/message/remote wipe features, but it just said the phone was "not connected to a network".

Did not have a passcode lock on it, so all my emails/photos, etc are probably accessible to whomever has the phone. Tried calling/texting but no response.
 
only thing you can due

is suspend service for now! call the cab center report it missing and hope that your Cab driver is honest. However this is NY and you left a $600 tip!
 
Yeah if you're getting a message of "not connected to a network" whoever took it probably took the sim card out already and have no intentions of returning it. I fear you're SOL
 
And change your password to email so email wont be updated on the iPhone without the new password.
 
Maybe I was the only one, but when I had MobileMe there were times where the phone was on, and connected to both wifi and cell networks, and MobileMe would still give me that message. It always took a reboot to fix it for me. That was probably the biggest reason that I didn't keep subscribing to MobileMe.

Does the SIM card have anything to do with MobileMe? I thought it was a connection from your phone to MobileMe, regardless of the connection method.

And how would you feel if it was your phone that was lost? I can honestly say that if I found a phone in a cab in NYC, I would return it. Wouldn't you do the same?

It doesn't matter to me whether or not it's likely that if I lost my phone, someone would return it. What matters to me is doing the right thing because somewhere down the road you're going to be glad you did.

Not everyone out there is as nice as you.
Reality is that chances of someone finding it and trying to locate the rightfull owner are very slim.

why did you suspend service before using MobileMe? Big mistake. You suspend service AFTER having put the passcode lock or remote wipe command.

Also, no way of getting it back now with suspended service.

Yet another person with a mobile me account and no password lock

When are people going to realize that the iphone hardware protection will always be better than any remote security protection :/

OP, I would do the following

1) call the cab company see if they have it
2) try calling your phone one last time
3) Call at&T and have them block your SIM card
4) Purchase new phone

A lost/stolen iPhone is as good as currency these days, since even the most dimwitted thiefs can do a factory restore.

Good thing this is a forum and people can say whatever. You have limited experience yet make a judgment call. Why not just say I don't know. It's thinking like that which gets people into trouble.
 
Guess what? I got an email today from a very nice person saying that they had found my phone and they are arranging for it to be shipped out to me.

I can't believe it! This person is a saint.

In response to an earlier post, I did try the mobileme services BEFORE suspending the service. It didn't work, and no one was responding to my texts/calls, so I had no choice but to suspend.

Good for you, I am glad things worked out. It looks like iceterminal's limited experience proved false. Talk about foot in the mouth.:rolleyes:
 
Lucky. Mine wandered out of my pocket, with a little help from someone else's hand. I would love it if it came back but am not holding my breath.

you should have used mobile me first. now it needs wifi in order for you to lock/find it.

forget it i check your other post. anyway new york is over used in the day. you would have been better off at 3 am.
