My 1,1 was bought in 2006. It was on 24/7 for many years. Last year I upgraded it with a pair of 5365s, and it's running El Capitan like a charm. After 11 years this puppy is still going strong and I haven't even changed the original battery yet! By comparison my 5,1 is only 5 years old, works flawlessly and I see no reason to upgrade anytime soon. I don't care when Apple stops supporting it. These Mac Pros are built like tanks.

Basically, 5 years from the mid-2012 model, which was a 5,1, and stopped being made in December 2013, would be December 2018.
We have time ;)
I guess that next year Apple will withhold macOS 10.14 from all 5,1s.

The NEW-NEW Mac Pro will be out and they will want to break people out of the mindset of cMPs being sufficient and never buying new computers.
