I’m still tempted! Help me!

lol is there some type of 12-step program for this? If so, sign me up!

Can you get a Kindle Paperwhite where you are? They have a backlight. As does the all new Kindle apparently.

I can, but I figure if I'm gonna spend more to buy that, I might as well get a mini and be able to use it for reading other things online as well. I could also load a few apps/games that I like to play when I'm in bed. My phone is just not quite big enough, and my 11" pro is too big. First world problems I know. I mean I'm certainly not complaining. I guess I'm just hoping to find a way to justify buying a mini. ;-p

I have both an Oasis 1 and an Oasis 2 (frontlit, not backlit). I forgot to take an Oasis with me when I visited my parents last weekend and I just could NOT read on the Mini 5. I think it’s what you are used to, but I read in the dark with the Oasis screen set at a much lower light level than I can get with the Mini 5.

I had an early PaperWhite and liked it, but upgraded to the Voyage and then the two Oasis.

I guess with the Mini 5, you could use white text on a black background and cut down on the light.

The Kindles are often on sale so it may be watching for a sale and picking up a new PaperWhite. The new low-end Kindle ($90) is frontlit. The resolution is lower than that of the PaperWhite. I haven’t paid attention to whether it’s been on sale because I’m not in the market.

I’m interested to know what settings you have your oasis set to? My brother has one and has the light almost down to zero when reading at night. I can’t see the text at that level. I know that it’s recommended to lower the light in the dark. Just wondering what others have theirs set at?

(Sorry slightly off topic)!

7 or 8, I think. I’ll bump it up to 9 or 10 in daylight.

Have an original Oasis. If reading in total darkness, 4 is best if I’m trying to fall asleep, 5 if I want to stay awake. In a dimly-lit room I bump it to 8. Anything brighter than that is taxing on the eyes to read on for longer periods.

Check out the “reduce white balance” settings in accessibility - changing this makes the white background a little closer to a Kindle screen and much easier to read on. I also set reduce white balance as the triple-tap home button shortcut to turn it on and off quickly, which is really helpful for watching movies, picture viewing, etc. Hope it helps!

For me, the beauty of iPad Mini 5 is: it sits comfortably and fills the gap between my iPhone SE and macbook air 11”. Looks like the combination of 4”-7.9”-11” complete my needs. Just hoping still get small iPhone in the near future *fingercrossed*
