Loving my Macbook C2D...but...eh...

I got a brand new C2D Macbook 2.0 with 2 GB RAM and so on...
It's a great machine! Although i'm having some problems!
It has the whine, which of course can be eliminated by using my BT Mighty Mouse, but that cannot be an excuse now, can it? The second, most distracting problem to me is, that inner case, in some places, is coming OFF (!!)
With all due respect...i dropped some cash on this thing...and these issues are not the ones, that go with that amount of money!
What do you guys suggest?

The whine goes away, you know, if using Bluetooth connection! It's been said many times!

Anyway, it the casing is busted it shouldn't be a problem to take it back for a replacement.

Then there is the noise. A lot of people have been writing and speaking about this. There seems to be two major issues. The whine, and the moo. This MacBook seems to have the whine. It's noticeable when plugged in power and bluetooth-mouse is unpresent. However, if power is unplugged the whine is pretty low. At all times if the bluetooth-mouse is present, there is no whin

Anyway, you guys are starting to convince me, that it's worth taking it in and ask for a replacement..

It's true about the bluetooth and whine. I've seen it myself. Go look around the forums and you'll find posts about it.

There was a buzz about this last summer (and even then I find the whole thing hilarious in a tragic kind of way, as I've yet to find consistency in the "reports" or even someone who remotely know what they're talking about reporting the issue), that's why I asked for links showing this with current MacBooks running 10.4.8, which to my knowledge wasn't available 6-7 months ago.

Plus the case is giving a cracking noise! Especially when moving the lid! It's pretty loud!

Why don't you just take it in to an Apple store and get a replacement?

I don't see the point of coming on these forums to complain about a lemon machine. If your problem was a widespread one (ie, screens on Macbook Pros not the greatest for such an expensive notebook) then I would feel your pain...but your machine can be easily fixed with a replacement.

Your better off spending your time & energy @ the Apple Store...not on these forums.

While I read about the whine going away when connecting a BT-Mouse for the first time, I have the same problem. It does not really bother me, so I guess I won't exchange my machine, but could this be bad for a hardware part? Is there too much energy going to some part of it? Will it some day harm my machine?

Just so everybody knows, it is not just the MB and MBP that exhibit the whine. I have seen posts on many other sites having to do with a wide variety of Wintel notebooks and CD/C2D processors that also complain about this same thing. I have been looking into TabletPC notebooks recently, and read a complain on a forum about the Gateway CX210 about the whine. So it would appear to be more related to Intel than to Apple. Just my 2 cents.

The problem was fixed in later revisions of the MacBook /Pro logic boards. It has nothing to do with the version of OSX as it is a hardware problem.

Apple offered to repair affected models free of charge, that is why you don't find many reports these days of the problem (or maybe you think Apple is hearing things too...). Anyone who knew they had it got theirs replaced, people who don't know they have it (amazingly) still don't know they have it, and people who bought new Macbooks received the fixed version. (If you think about that maybe that would explain why it was the buzz last summer and not any more)

Also just because you didn't have this problem does not mean it wasn't real.

As for why bluetooth causes the whine to stop. The CPU only whines when it is in its lowest power mode. Turning bluetooth on prevents the cpu from going into it's lowest power setting (this is a flaw in the intel chipset i believe) hence no noise.

In which case - wouldn't altering some settings in the Energy Saver preference panel have the same effect?

Ya, I've seen this issue all over the net, pertaining to Intel Core2 Duo computers. Many hear the noise louder from just above where the CPU is, more so when coming out of sleep. The solution for PC's is to disable USB power management, or use RMclock and disable the Hlt Command, and keep the CPU from entering the "C1" state. Apparently this is a chipset thing.

"The better solution, and the one that entirely removes the noise (for some people - it fixes it for my W2P, but not my E1505) is to download RMClock and, under Advanced CPU Settings -> Platform, disable pop-up mode. I have the whine on my CD MacBook, and I took it in to the Genius Bar but he said "It's only an official issue with the MBPs, not the MacBooks" and I was hoping I'd get a replacement but he said he'd send it in with not much chance of it being fixed. Should I have asked for a replacement?

It is a bug that causes this so I don't think there is a way to do this via the energy panel. However there were programs made back when this first came out which reduce the noise via a software method.

To save myself hassle i just returned mine under the cool off period. Really miss that nice MBP though.

As for your problem, bitch and moan until they fix it. It will need a new logic board to fix it.

My MBP made a whine and I took it in and they replaced the logic board. It started whining again, I shipped it in (free of course) this time and got it back in less than 48 hours and it whined no more, they replaced the inverter board this time. I have had wonderful service for my whine.

I agree. Both of my work Core Duo laptops (Thinkpad and Dell) have a whine as well.

man....it's threads like this that are making want to go my local Mac store...

Buy the Blackbook that I've been saving forever for and am totally almost ready to buy.....

and just sit there all day using it as tough as I can....and if I hear whines or moos or hisssses...or if the case is chipping off, or melting.....or god knows whatever else...

There should be, however apple in their wisdom don't let you change it easily. There are mods to do it but you do it at your own risk.

The LCD buzz was being fixed long before the CPU whine was recognised by apple. This page was put up when apple finally recognised the CPU whine and started fixing peoples laptops. (I spent a lot of time watching this problem)

Ok...so...i called Apple Store and asked what we could do! They said it's "replacing under warranty". I'm not too sure, as to what that means...replacing part, or the whole machine...i've got to be honest with you...i'd rather go and change the whole machine! Is that rude, to ask them to give me a new one?
