Good to know having the luxury of LTE on the go a few times a year is worth the extra $20 a month or so. To the vast majority it is not and tethering will more than suffice. To say it is a necessity and not a luxury is pure ignorance.
You're not required to get LTE service if you buy an iPad with LTE. You can just enable LTE as-needed. Similar to insurance, you may not use it all the time but when you do need it, it's very helpful.

Edit: Missed the comment about it being a necessity. Yeah, it's definitely a luxury. Not necessarily one that costs $20/mo though.

The only way to have a worthwhile plan with unlimited data that would help in a situation as described above would be to have a monthly bill for it. I know that tmobile offers an on demand service where you don't pay anything for 200mb but they bill you per GB after that. factor in the fact that on top of the monthly payment the LTE device already costs 129$ more than a non LTE model.

Maybe if you plan on watching the news in HD the entire time. Otherwise, there are ways to manage data usage.

Mine was great too.... except it was only for entertainment.

Power out on the 11th at 1:30am, cell tower out at about 5:45am. Power back on 17th and cell service finally stable yesterday.

But we were able to go watch the keynote up the road in a parking lot, nice family bonding moment with my kids!! LOL

Now if only it would cut up the tree in my driveway and on top of my garage.
