This phone is a nice beginner phone and really looks more like a Lumia 520 replacement if you look at the cost and what you get. Great price for a new phone though! But... Only 512mb of RAM! Some apps won't work without 1gb of RAM.

Looks like Best Buy carries it. What the heck, worth a gander without any commitment. I like my 521 but I need a larger screen.

Ive been using this phone as my daily driver and first delve into the WP OS and I absolutely love it. Came from a Note 3 and the portability, snappyness, of the OS, and battery life on this thing is amazing.

I took it off the charger at 8 this morning and still have 72% left with some social media, email, and about 20-30 minutes in calls.

Worth the $99 price tag for sure to give it a go.

Bought it yesterday before the store closed. Good to read your experience. Amazing what 512 RAM can do that some other smartphones cannot with more. I was going to wait for more RAM but the 521 doesn't give me any problems with what I do with it, now I have a bigger brother. And like you said, the price screams trial at least, I would probably have to pay double for more RAM.

I may look into picking this up. I really wish more phones would start using nano sims.

Good stuff!

Llyod and others have been a big help for me as I am brand new to the OS. You hit it on the head. I am shocked at how snappy this thing is with only 512 of RAM as I feel I am more productive for my job with the WP email client versus the one I have been on with Android and the Note 3.

No hesitation, love the layout, and very responsive.

Never really used my Lumia 520 after I set it up. Biggest thing was lack of LTE. I pulled the trigger on the 635 and it should be here tomorrow.

Looking forward to giving it a fair shot (as a daily driver)!

Tips and tricks are welcome and appreciated :D

I went by Best Buy at lunch and picked it up. My last Windows Phone was on WP7. WOW 8.1 is such a huge difference. I'm getting the phone setup right now but I really like it I can't believe it was only $100. I really really like how the calender is setup.

Really glad to hear from so many people that the 635 is a great phone. It makes a world of difference when people have nothing but positive things to say about a phone and the OS. I love WP and I hope the 635 is the phone that brings marketshare up and keeps the OS alive.

I bought myself a cheap wp too. Went huawei though. Actually truly content. Certainly works smoother than my last android device [both cost about 100 euro].

I thought by now more RAM would be readily available and was kind of hoping and waiting. If something pops up in the next 45 days, I would consider it perhaps but it would depend on price.

The 635 is a bump up considering the screen size and processor versus the 521 which I paid $79 for. Screams buy for $99 for the big brother.

So my 635 arrived last night. Already like it more than the 520. The screen is a good size, and I get to have LTE. Those two things have convinced me to give a try as a daily driver so I can learn to use WP8.1.

Today's my first day with it. I'll check back periodically! I like the design - very simple, and the size is good. Might need to pick up a cheap SD card too for pictures and such.

Question:

-Best way to sync my iCloud contacts and calendars? On Android there were apps I could download that allowed my contacts and calendars to sync over. Whats the best way to do this on WP8.1?

I used the transfer my data app on the WP and it got most of my contacts over from my Note 4. It errored out though and I was only able to get so many.

I copied it to the sim card and it was good from there.

I have been using it for about 2 weeks now and I absolutely love the battery life and portability of the device coming from the Note 3.

I found an app called "Syncme" that worked for my contacts. Don't know about the calendars though....but its not that big a deal. I have my 5S with me as well and all my calendars there too.

The Transfer my Data worked for my calendar as I think it came pre loaded with the app on the phone to assist.

Interesting, I'll have to look into that.

Really liking it so far. As a phone, its perfect. Haven't got into any of the daily stuff I do as far as apps go yet...

For me I am not a huge app guy, just the popular social media ones and have been great.

The bigger factor for me is how great of an email/calendar client WP has as opposed to Android as it is just so fast and no lag at all between screens or emails being sent.

Huge productivity thing for me as the productivity installed WP apps are awesome.

I always have to ask; Do you mean GMail or that hideous mess called 'email' designed for AOSP clients?

There are features I really like in gmail, like the 'unsubscribe button' being right up top now next to the senders name, built in auto download of attachments, proper reflow and image centering, etc. WP is quick, because it is less graphically developed and runs unilateral conversation compilation when several emails come from the same person. Can be a bit jerky jerky in use.

Ive had some thread go very long from the same person and goes off without a hitch and its amazed me every time.

I am referring to the stock TW email app for Android, not Gmail as I can't use that for work.

The WP email app just flies and love the multiple layouts from flagged, urgent, unread and such with one quick swipe.

I heard someone on a podcast talking about this phone saying it was a step back from the 520 considering it is newer

You are always gonna have the haters.

Definitely. People see the WP OS and they automatically go ewww, what is that? lol

The phone is amazing for $99 and faster in so many areas in functionality than my Note 3.
