How is everyone finding the battery life on the iPad Pro 11"?

I haven't see any threads created, so this must mean everyone is seeing stated times are ok

With the new M1, is anyone finding they are getting more than 10 hours?

I started a thread but it keeps ending up on the next page. I was having issues with battery dropping fast and seemed better after a reboot but then started again. I think I have narrowed it down to being the magic keyboard because battery seems normal in tablet mode. I don’t know if the magic keyboard is drawing more power than it should or if that’s just how it is when using the trackpad or the backlit keyboard. What is everyone seeing with the battery life with their magic keyboard? And what is everyone seeing for standby time if you leave your iPad not charging overnight how much percentage does it lose when you look at it the next morning?

I’m finding the battery life to be the best aspect of the new 11” iPad Pro. I’m consistently getting better than 10 hrs of life. I judge by the fact that my screen on time is always less than 10% per hour. So if my screen on time is 6 hours I’ll have used less than 60% of the battery.

Must be a good thing if no one is keeping the thread bumped :)

I’m looking at it today while not using the magic keyboard and it’s dropping 1% every 2 minutes from just using safari on WiFi nothing else. Makes me think it’s not the keyboard now. Maybe I can’t just look at it dropping 1 percent because maybe from 95% to 94% isn’t the same has 85% to 84%. I don’t know why if screen brightness is the same and nothing else running but who knows. But if it keeps dropping at 1% every 2 minutes then that would be like 3-3.5 hours for battery life just browsing the web which sucks!

How strange that the new M1 reduces battery life the same as the 2018 11"

I was under the impression it was improved and more efficient, and battery time would be better on the new 2021 11" (without the mini LED's)

Test just now indicates safari was def the culprit, specifically this forum for some strange reason. The iPad was getting hot just browsing this forum. Something was getting stuck in the background here. Closed safari and the battery percentage drop was significantly reduced, actually better than my 2020 iPad. I wonder if an update can fix it or if it’s just the website. I remember reading another threat where someone said their iPhone was getting crazy hot from macrumors forum. Using iOS 14.6 right now.

That's not cool. Literally. I guess a workaround would be using an app like Tapatalk to read/post on this forum.

Yes just tested again. Kind of crazy. Battery drains quick and then all I did was get rid of the macrumors tab and continue browsing in safari and the battery drain was fixed and running super cool. And all this makes sense because I have been browsing macrumors way more since I got my new iPad and all that was doing was just draining the battery and making me think it was the iPad or keyboard. I even swapped out the keyboard for a new one. But glad they are good. I can always just close the tab when done or find another way to browse. I just wonder what causes it? Anyone that’s computer savvy know if it’s because of the ads or something else stuck running that would cause it?

Every bit as good as my 2020 11" was, possibly even a bit better, haven't had it long enough to know for sure though... but yeah, zero complaints on battery life from me.

That's so strange how a safari website i.e. MacR can drain a battery faster.... :(

I can confirm this as well on my bone stock M1 11” running 14.6. The back starts feeling really warm when browsing MR. On my 2020 I use content blocker, but haven’t fully setup my M1 yet. Didn’t realize how many ads this site runs :)

I'll try looking on MacR tonight on my 12.9 M1 and see if I can notice a difference when viewing this website.

I have been having pretty bad battery life really, and wondered what it could be, been thinking of backing off from the mini led version, but giving a good test first. I used to get fantastic battery from my 2018 11"

I though the M1 was meant to be more power efficient?

Whenever I read on those having battery life issues, which I believe them all to be true, just how many used the "restore from previous (device)" option, vs setting up as new.

I remember with some of my older iPhones, I would always restore from the previous gen and my battery life was always way worse than what was advertised, then I just started setting things up as a new device and things have always worked perfectly since then.

Interesting. I’m getting over 10 hours of battery life on my new 11”. I also happened to start from scratch.

I kind of like starting from fresh with a new device. It allows me to “play” with it while I watch TV.

Mine is setup as fresh and not logged into ANY account, including App Store.

So far my battery went from 100% to 89% during 2 hrs of usage with light browsing and some YouTube. During this time I did NOT browse MacRumors with this iPad. This is lot better than past few days where my battery life was in the toilet, likely due to MR site and their ads (likely culprit).

This was interesting.

Much better battery life than the 12.9” iPad Pro.

to continue from 2 posts up, I decided to browse MR exclusively today for some time. During browsing MR only, I lost 7% in 16 min and back of my iPad was warm. This was without any kind of content blocker btw.

edit: after manually closing Safari, I opened it again and browsed other sites and lost 2% in 12 min. This is not scientific, but MR site definitely eats up more battery without a content blocker. This just begs for use of blocker. I know mods browse the forum a lot since I got caught twice just today, but they need to be more on top of this kind of thing.

I’m getting excellent battery life so far. I’ve been doing some light gaming, watching YouTube videos, and web browsing. I’m impressed!

Just curious, did you try it in “request mobile website” mode? I have no idea if that would serve up the pages in a different way that affected battery life less, but maybe it’s worth a shot. I mention it because I noticed some odd capitalization behavior when typing posts here (and on a few other sites) when on the default “desktop website” mode.
