Just curious, did you try it in “request mobile website” mode? I have no idea if that would serve up the pages in a different way that affected battery life less, but maybe it’s worth a shot. I mention it because I noticed some odd capitalization behavior when typing posts here (and on a few other sites) when on the default “desktop website” mode.
I haven’t because I want to use non-mobile site on the iPad. I normally use content blocker anyways, but haven’t had a chance to setup my new M1 iPad yet.

Just tested mobile site. Doesn’t seem any better :(

to continue from 2 posts up, I decided to browse MR exclusively today for some time. During browsing MR only, I lost 7% in 16 min and back of my iPad was warm. This was without any kind of content blocker btw.

edit: after manually closing Safari, I opened it again and browsed other sites and lost 2% in 12 min. This is not scientific, but MR site definitely eats up more battery without a content blocker. This just begs for use of blocker. I know mods browse the forum a lot since I got caught twice just today, but they need to be more on top of this kind of thing.

I'm seeing similar results. Been browsing MR more frequently when I got my new iPad Pro and was disappointed at the rate the battery was draining. I was starting to think the battery in my new iPad Pro wasn't much better than my nearly 7-year-old iPad Air 2. I'm glad I came across this thread, I would have never thought it would have been caused from this site. The battery drain/life is much better when I'm not visiting MR.

maybe this is true too, haha. Try using a content blocker. My 2020 is setup to use Firefox Focus as the content blocker and I just finished setting up my 2021 Pro so will test it some time later.

My iPad has been running great without MR up or browsing as much, so I’m pretty confident that was the issue. It hasn’t even gotten warm let alone hot when I was on the forum. I downloaded a content blocker called AdGuard on my iPhone and it was free and has been working really good so far. I’m going to install it on my iPad next and test it out and see if without all the ads if the drain is still high. Very happy though that the battery is good on my iPad and that the magic keyboard is not faulty either.

I was initially worried that my new device was faulty until I narrowed it down to this site :(

Yep, same here. I just started a new thread here in case anyone wants to contribute to it. I figured it was the appropriate place since it appears to be the site/forums that's causing the issue, and hopefully it'll get MR's attention to look into if it gets enough responses. I don't recall this always being an issue.

hi, just want to ask,
i just bought the 11 M1
and quite surprised by it's battery life, im watching youtube on wifi, about 80-90% brightness, but i'm getting bad battery life.
i don't know wheter i'm expecting too much ?
in the battery option it shows screen on time only 2:44 hours but my battery already showing 58%
i feel that my iphone 12 pro max last much longer when watchin youtube vidoes.
is this normal ? or my battery is faulty ?

i only got this ipad about 2 days a go from the apple store. and i haven't installed anything else other than youtube.

My issue is that my M1 iPad Pro 11" goes from 100% to drained during standby mode. I can charge Sunday night to 100% and place in my bag to use at work during the week. if I use on Wednesday for the first time it's already dead. I first noticed it while only using a Smart Cover and Apple Pencil attached. Then I swapped the Smart Cover with a Smart Keyboard, I know this will drain just as fast, and the pencil. I just went to use this morning and it's not charged. Last 100% was Friday, today is Tuesday . I am going to test it without case and pencil to see what happens. I have done hard resets, fresh install of iPadOS and still the same. oh this has been occurring for a few months.

Have you looked at Settings - Battery to see what's causing the drain?

Mind, with a simple Smart Cover like case, no Apple Pencil nor Smart/Magic Keyboard connected, I pretty much get 20-25% standby battery drain per day on my older iPad Pros.

The non-X chipset basic iPad and iPad Airs fair much better at around 10-15% daily standby battery drain.

the Find My app is using 100% of the battery. (background activity) I don't want to turn that off but what else can I do?

Just looked at the battery on my phone and Find My app is using 1% (background activity)

Well guys, you complaint about M1 11inch, but I had the M1 12.9 and let me tell you that that it’s way worse than 11 inch.
I don’t see bad battery life anymore (besides when I use zoom one google meet)with my 11 M1. If you are having a bad time, you should definitely take it back and order another one.
I don’t like new “Faulty“ products.

I think I see the issue: it could be my Air Tag on my backpack. My iPad Pro is always in the backpack. So, maybe that could be causing the drainage. The iPhone is hardly near the backpack, hence the 1% usage. I don't know, just grasping at straws here. In the meantime I will just separate them before removing the air tag from my account.

I am having the same issue. Find my is using all of my battery.

I have a number of AirTags around. Not sure if this is maybe the culprit. However this does not happen on my phone.

Since the firmware on my airtags updated the drain has gone away on my iPad Pro.

Well, I just went to use my iPad Pro and it's down to under 20% with full charge this past Friday. Find My app is consuming battery again at 100% usage since Friday. I guess I will remove at least one AirTag...
