As I wrote, this is the first generation Apple Bluetooth keyboard. It is Bluetooth-only. You are talking about the second-generation Bluetooth keyboards.

It appears that 11.2.2 broke the ability to use the first-generation Bluetooth keyboards with the M1 Macs. I have not tried Intel Macs on 11.2.2 as I'm still running Mojave on my Intel Macs.
If you are talking about the first generation Apple Wireless Keyboard from 2003 then I’m not surprised.

On the other hand I used a 3rd generation with Big Sur and Monterey until yesterday with no problems.

I thought that that first one was wired. I think that I had one of those a long time ago. The one I have from the Late 2009 iMac 27 looks like the one in the lower picture. As I wrote, it can see the keyboard but it can't connect. This is similar to reports that I saw in forums where the keyboard stopped working after installing 11.2.2.

It's a bit of a moot point to me as my preference is clicky mechanical keyboards that require a lot of weight to activate. I also prefer wired.

I had a look at my OS and it is Big Sur 11.4 so I'll have to think about upgrading to 11.5.

I’m pretty sure the forum reports are wrong and you had a different problem. I just paired my old wireless keyboard to my Mac Pro which is on the latest Big Sur and it connected with no problems.

That doesn't necessarily rule out Big Sur. That rules out your particular combination. Could be a bad driver on the M1.

I have the 2018 Mac mini i3, and with Big Sur I have given up using my Apple keyboard and Logitech mouse via Bluetooth. However, as I never had any issues with Bluetooth when running Catalina, I downgraded from Big Sur to Catalina just to test, and lo and behold the Bluetooth issues disappeared. In my case Bluetooth issues are; lagging and disconnecting regularly. So, then I waited to upgrade until Big Sur 11.4 came out, thinking that Apple might have fixed these issues. Nope! When running Big Sur again, Bluetooth issues are back. Damn annoying! This is seriously embarrassing, Apple. For now I stick with Big Sur, but run my mouse via the RF receiver, and my keyboard is wired. Shouldn't have to be this way.

For the record, my bluetooth issues weren't consistent or unworkable, but they did show up once in a while and that was annoying. Either way I returned the thing because I was expecting MUCH better performance working in Final Cut than what I got. I know it's probably my setup without using the codecs apple likes, but either way I decided the machine is not worth owning and I will stick to my 2017 MacBook Pro.

I'm not saying the M1 doesn't perform well for its price. It does. But everyone making it sound like it will replace a Mac Pro for $700 with 8GB of ram are totally blowing the M1 out of proportion. It's good for everyday users or maybe light pro users.

The M1 is a nice computer but it's not magic. It's not a high-end desktop in terms of CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, ports, monitor outputs. It's performance per watt is really great but I think that most people would prefer a system that gets the work done faster, even if it uses two or three times the electricity.

I really like the M1 Mac mini but I use it in conjunction with a much bigger system.

The people claiming 8GB on an M1 is equivalent to 16GB on an Intel Mac were certainly smoking some good stuff.

If you aren't using a codec supported directly in hardware, you are going to be relying on the GPU. The M1 has a much better GPU than the Intel Mac mini but it is not in the same ballpark as the GPUs available on the 27" iMac or Mac Pro.

Just got an M1 Mac mini (ditched Windows after a long time; their last printer update broke both my printers), and I'm finding it great and less stressful than updating Windows every day. I'm experiencing some BT issues as well with my ikbc mechanical keyboard randomly disconnecting. Odd, because my mouse doesn't. I may revert to a wired connection for the keyboard.

I found the same thing. Mouse was fine, Apple keyboard couldn't connect. But I use wired keyboard and mouse anyways. The mini has been great. One other nice benefit is Time Machine. I have to manually backup my Windows system but I have my mini connected to three backup drives and just rotate the drives used from time to time.

I use the Logitech k380 and have had zero issues. Same for the M720 mouse.
