The thing to note... is that at 57% you can pretty much run the air all day unless you are gaming. We also have to change our mindsets / habits around what a battery percentage is on the new M1's... in the old models I'd totally freak at 57% and want to charge but now these ones... that's over 100% battery usage on an old Mac. Even at 20% you still have a decent 2 or 3 hours and that's even with Youtube usage. It's amazing really.

Well, almost an hour has passed since my post, and I'm at around 60%, which gives the Macbook Air 40% per hour (or 2h 30m) charging speed. I guess it is functioning normally, even though I would prefer it to charge faster. Looks like the battery charging speed indicator is quite a bit off the charts.
What does Activity monitor say is the load on the system? If the system is under heavy load you would expect slower charging speeds.
If the system is consuming say 10Ws the charger’s juice going to the battery is less.

I was actually shocked at how fast my M1 MBA is charging given the 18 hour battery life.

To be fair, I upgraded from a 2014 13" i5 MacBook Pro so every think about this Air is god tier to me.

The only thing I missed was some ports so I bought this very cheap dock and I have all the same ports back that I used to have for the few times I actually need them: https://www.amazon.com/USB-Hub-Multiport-Adapter-Compatible/dp/B07RL5L8ZL/

I charged mine while doing my morning routine. S.S.S. Had breakfast and it was ready to go. I don’t use an app, I don’t use a stopwatch, I just plug it in when it is low and use it. If something seems out of ordinary I research it.

Also: I know I’m weird, I don’t track my steps, my food, my breaths, my heart rate, my sleep, none of it. I’m paid by salary, I don’t even track the hours I work ... am I missing something?

Same charger as previous MB Airs. About size battery also. Air is a budget system.

USB-C chargers are universal and the systems negotiate the charge power. So if you have a higher power USB-C charger then it should work. Back when we could travel I usually carried one USB-C 60W charger and used it for my 16" MBP, Samsung S10, iPad Pro.
Since when is $1100 dollars after tax for a base model laptop a budget system?

No, that's not it, optimized charging - according to the description, at least - refers to charging after 80% capacity is reached.
I suspect this has got more to do with the ridiculously slow 30W charger that Apple supplies with the Macbook Air - compared to the 60W charger for Macbook Pro 13''

Better listen to what Nate Spencer suggested to you...

Optimized charging = optimized financing of Apple battery replacements.

There is 0 reasons to deploy AI to "learn" how you charge your device. If Apple wanted you to prolong your battery life - they would implement the switch to give you the option to disable the charging once battery reached 80%. However - they would earn less on battery replacements..

Use AlDente app for the above functionality and disable Optimized charging.
