After 5 days with my new MacBook Pro I realize there is a major design issue Apple has overlooked:

The machine is almost always cold to the touch. Almost every time I want to use it as a literal laptop, on my lap in shorts, I get that feeling of cold metal on my skin that lasts for a while.

It's gotten to the point I dread using the machine.

Apple really needs to use hotter chips.

Back in the old days I couldn't use my MacBooks in bed in the summer because the heat was unbearable. I would literally be sweating. Today I was having my M1 download and install all three Affinity apps at once and it barely got warm.

It’s a design flaw and it will only get worse with next version (M2, M3).
Contemplating going back to Windows. ☹️

? Can’t tell...
Sarcasm or first world problems?

Although it seems to be a joke, I will say the most unpleasant time when I use my 2016 model I still have is right when I wake up and open it in the morning. After the chassis makes that crack sound from warming up a bit I know it’s good to go lol

No kidding, even leaving it open to stream Spotify while working today my Pro is still cold to the touch. I live in Alaska, so I'm a fan of warm over cold...

I'm sure we will see a new M1 add-on. The Apple I'mCold. A new thermal heat pad that attaches to the bottom of your MBA that will only heat the bottom of the pad up so your legs are nice and cosy. Doesn't work with 29w chargers though and only works with LEG processors.

My flat is freezing. My old MBP got so hot even in the depths of winter it would be too hot for my lap. This is a nice change.

I have the same issue, I use mine to watch Netflix etc in bed and it's cold in my house. My 2014 mbp kept me nice and warm... Not I get frostbite if I touch the case...

I laughed as I really like the cold touch.
With other laptops I got really uncomfortable on the lap after a while due to the emitted heat, with my M1 MBP it stays comfortable chilly. :)

Maybe the next Mx Mac will be a ice generating reverse thermal design ??

It's funny people complaining the M1 is cold - my M1 Mini is ice cold all day while my Intel counterparts are running hot.

16" MBP I hate to use on my lap - it gets way too hot and end up with thigh burns!

What I got my first unibody MacBook, in was winter 2008 and I was living in a converted "barn/mews" in Central Stockholm with the original lead windows and from 1700 and it was cold and I loved it every morning in contrast to a nice espresso.

It was so nice and cold to the touch. Also the area where the wrist hits is slightly rough and smooths out over time.

Kinda sad in way.
