Wow - I just posted about my exact same sentiments with the screens in the latest MacBooks:

Just as a follow up on this:
Apple said I'd have to pay $800 when they took it in for repair if they found it was caused by physical damage. Today they returned it to me without charging me the $800, but still they said it was due to physical damage. I would imagine this is their way of not admitting it's a defect

I just had the exact same thing happen to mine, M1 Pro 16", also the upper left corner. I had gotten the applecare+ and they are charging me $100. I didn't bump it and there wasn't any object I could see that could have done that. I may have picked it up by the corner, but I don't know. This computer is such a big chonk, or feels like it, compared to my old 2019, but I guess it is far more fragile. Really bummed out as I was just making some progress on a project that had been stuck for a bit. The only spare computer around here is a 2014 Macbook Pro with 500 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM running Big Sur. It's going to be hard to move into that to work in the meantime. Shakes me up as I don't know how much I can trust this computer's durability, or at least the screen. It's only a couple weeks old!
yes, my macbook also start cracked from upper left corner.

You clearly have impact damage in the front corner. Also using a keyboard cover. Yours does not look like a defect.

My M1 Macbook Pro display also stopped working suddenly after 4 months of use, seems to be caused by a tiny piece of debris which has been caught inside on the edge and after closing the lid has caused damage. Perhaps once debris is inside its no longer to safe to travel with it? I would always use my travel case of course and would often wipe down the screen with a cloth to remove the fingerprints.

I took it to the Apple store and they said its caused by me, however I don't understand how this can be deemed as accidental damage, and it would be €830 for the replacement parts alone. The employee even explained how the newer models have very little protection! So essentially admitting the design here is causing the fragility. How is it possible to use this laptop is I'm afraid to close the lid? I had a call from a senior advisor at Apple support and he recommended to try get more opinions from other apple stores and repair stores as I might have a case judging by the photos. Unfortunately, he couldn't overrule the decision from the Apple store without seeing it himself in person.

It happened to me with my MacBook Air 2018 a year and a half after I got it… Apple charged me $780 For a screen replacement out of AppleCare… I was furious as I didn’t forget anything under the screen while closing it and they didn’t want to listen to anything I said… do what you have to do so they make it right… I’d threaten to go to the small claims court and sue them if this happened with my new MBP M1 Max 16”… get them buddy!

Youve got super crap experience with Apple product, namely with their laptop, supposedly got ripped off almost 800$, yet, here you are again, with another one of their laptop's, about 2-3 times more expensive than the previous one, still angry, rightfully so, but to buy another of their products with some people questioning display durability on their units, it's just beyond my comprehension, why?!

I always used Apple computers and my personal use of a Mac for video processing / photography is just perfect for me… it’s one 1800$ laptop on tens of thousands of dollars in systems… I wouldn’t get a PC I do all my personal stuff on Mac, I work on PC.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t “hate” PCs I’m a system administrator working in a 150+ HP servers infrastructure… I worked for IBM 5 years before that but my father had Apple computers and it’s what I used all my life… I’m not a gamer, I spend my time travelling and hiking. I love to document on video and photo where I travel… my whole infrastructure is Apple so I don’t see myself changing it I’d have to pay a fortune…
