M1 Max MacBook Pro still good?

I’m thinking about getting the M1 Max 16 MacBook Pro from B&H photo. Main reason is that I like the real estate of the screen size.

My question is the M1 Max still good with the M3 out now?

Main uses are just internet browsing, office productivity, and some basic photo and video stuff (native apps, nothing professional).

Go with the M1 Max deal. You get more of everything except CPU cores compared to a $2500 MBP M3 which drops to the Pro model at $2500.

For you stated uses, you risk running out of disk space versus performance if you intend to keep your new laptop for more than 3 years. M1 Max will run games better than the M3 Pro too.

At that price point, I'd say get an M3-based machine. Although the RAM and Storage options make it a tempting offer.

I'd say M1 max also. The base M3 Pro is the same price, and you would be getting 48GB more of RAM and 1.5TB bigger hard drive for the same cost if you get the base model. You'd be spending ~$2k more for the same RAM/storage specs with the M3. I doubt you would ever notice the difference between the M1 Max vs. the M3, even years down the line.

Based on the amount of storage and RAM, take the deal (except if you can find an exceptionally great discount on an M3 Max MBP). Aside from the faster SoC, the M1 Max MBP is almost identical to the M3 Max MBP.

I say go for it, I bought the M1 Max 14" MBP with those specs and have been thrilled with it. The heavy lifting I do with my machines is mostly limited by RAM, so 64GB is fantastic. I've got plenty of headroom for photo editing and playing music with Mainstage, where my old 2016 MBP with 16GB RAM would get choked up and take several minutes just to reopen my concert files.

I bought a closeout loaded M1 Pro 16", also from B&H, a couple months after the M2's were released. Still using it to this day, but for high-end professional tasks in my business as a graphic artist. It's still a monster machine, and an M1 Max would only be more so. There is very little reason to pay rack rate for the current model unless every single percentage point of additional performance makes you actual money. Otherwise? Closeout or refurb is the way to go. Why pay more?

m1 max is soo good, I just UPGRADED from the the m1 max 1TB 32GB to the m1 max 2TB 64GB using BH deal so I can store my photos on a single laptop. Plan to sell old my m1 max for 2k, no brainer.

Bargain! I just bought one for an employee with 1TB/32GB RAM on Facebook for $1000 that was bought less than a year ago and still has AppleCare. As a business, these are awesome machines. Personally, I would rather have HDMI 2.1 but for 4x the price not so much.

Apple obviously made way too many of those that they’re still selling new ones for bargain prices at resellers. You know Apple is giving resellers repayments for the prices selling at.

To give you an idea of just how good this machine is, I’m using my M1 Max MBP 16” 64GB to edit RED 8k video, which it does easily. Still as fast as it was with multiple apps, even with the new OS. Apple overbuilt this machine and it’s glorious.

Apple already stopped selling ‘M1 Max, the countdown has begun. Get an M2, if you gonna keep it for longer than 5-8 years. It isn’t always about specs.

I think OP will be absolutely fine. The last Mac sold with M1 Max was only discontinued 6 months ago (Mac Studio M1 Max/Ultra). There is no reason to not consider this a great deal if you’d rather have more ram and storage instead of a faster CPU. You’re saving anywhere between $500 and $1700 depending on what upgrades you would have selected on an M3 Pro/Max. And if you get an M1 Max over an M3 Pro, you’re still ahead 30-40% on raw GPU performance. The only situation you should completely disregard the M1 Max for an M3 Pro is if you need/want hardware ray-tracing, then the choice of M3 is simple.

My 14” I bought too. Just call or chat Apple with your invoice from B&H, they will take care of it and will be eligible for AppleCare+.

Well if you are serial upgrader, it’s a different story. I don’t like wasting money buying MBP often.
