The hdmi and sd card port on these is totally unnecessary. WTF?! Everyone already bought connectors for these items over the last 5 years.

MagSafe was a mess. Yeah it was branded well but I didnt like it because my cables were always ruined and I had to spend a lot of money replacing it. Imo TB3/4 works great and haven’t had to replace it once.

Good grief… ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️ That was a step backwards and for very little gain. The size is perfect. Apple could’ve added more battery capacity.

"All these" = 2 LOL! But I do agree it would be better to just have two additional TB ports instead, but I'm not sure if that was possible. If not, then I see no issue with adding those two dedicated ports so people didn't have to take up two TB ports with adapters instead.

Well, HDMI is good for plugging into the company projector or any old TV in the spur of the moment -- no carrying a dongle around.

The SD card reader is really nice for carrying enough stuff around to totally erase your Mac and reinstall everything without downloading anything, plus any document backups you might need. You will be able to buy one that fits flush to the case, so it doesn't stick out any and you just leave it there, no dongle, no carry around the card.

Magsafe is better than USB-c for power, constantly pugging in and unplugging a USB-c port will eventually wear something out.

Sounds good to me!

That said, I like lots of ports, a couple USB-A's would have been nice too. :)

Apple can never win. Any change will lead to complaints.

Anyways, I don't have use for the ports. But I could really give a rats ass that they exist on the computer. On a desktop. I care about the ports but on a laptop my use case is different. I just need to be able to charge it and occasionally plug in a flash drive.

Although this is the first laptop with good enough performance numbers in a reasonable enough price and weight. To consider dumping my desktop and old laptop. Switching to just one computer to do both.

Plus I don't have much gaming interest anymore. I just play some low graphics indies now occasionally. Which would work just fine in Parallels. I'm just burned out on the AAA titles.

Having a SD card reader, those in the video and photographic industry will buy these machines in droves in my opinion because that is the one thing that is universal in that industry, storing video and photos onto SD cards. People in that industry are fed up with having to carry USB SD card adapters with them, in my opinion.

A lot of cameras still use full SD and for micro SD you can just use an adapter so one or two fewer dongles.

HDMI is less finicky, more reliable and a few less dongles than trial and error with buying multiple costly USB-C/Thunderbolt to HDMI adapters.

For a cross platformer, I dislike when Raspberry Pi moved from full HDMI to micro HDMI so glad when industry standardize on full HDMI and SD.

Well speak for yourself. First thing I did was plug in my hdmi cable to run my dell monitor from work and I also use the SD card from my camera occasionally.

Also all the projectors I come across for work no matter at which agency or hotel meeting rooms use hdmi and people never seem to have the right dongle with them.

SKY is also blocking AirPlay so it’s nice to have to option to stream from my laptop to the tv

Research says that 13% of any base will complain if given the chance. My mother would go to steak restaurants buy fish and complain it wasn’t fresh. She would do the same if we went to a fish restaurant.

Some people feel that nothing is right if they can’t find something to complain about.

My only regret is that I wish the usb-c ports had been closest to the screen instead of MagSafe and the HDMI which have taken the best spots. I use my MBP docked on a stand a lot (with usb-c power) and now all my usb-c cables are an inch or two further into the laptop than they used to be and it looks messy.

I am sure most pro will appreciate these ports. Personally I have zero use for the SD slot, but HDMI is great for making presentations without needing a full hub. And MagSafe is great too, it saved my air several times from my cat, although I am a bit worried they made the magnet too strong this time... Overall I am 100% for the new ports (and the 16in has already the max battery size possible)

Apple goes all thunderbolt, people complain, Apple adds ports, people complain. No matter what, people will complain.

Apple obviously has the resources to find out what their customers want. I wouldn’t be surprised if, during their research, they found out overall there were more people that would prefer to bring back old ports vs people who want the previous I/O.

This post is proof positive that no matter what this company does, people are going to be outraged about it.

Me personally... don't really care about HDMI/SD ports. No idea if I'll ever use them. But seriously who really cares?

I read this thread title as “MBP […] has too many unnecessary posts” and this far down it’s still a more accurate heading.

At first I thought the same - all these ports that I don't need. But then I realized that I don't have to carry around a few extra dongles "just in case" I need to present or sneaker-net a file. I do agree that a USB-A port would have been nice though (also as a "just in case").

I use compact flash cards most pro’s don’t use sd cards
