If you look at the processor in a vacuum, sure. The M2 is a modest upgrade.

But that’s probably why Apple introduced it with a new chassis and other upgrades.

For those who don’t care about any of that, the M1 mba is still on sale.

Always take into account the whole package.

I think the base M1 Air is going to be the best laptop for most people for some time to come. I was happily able to use mine for everything from light development work to running Windows. I was also fine with working on Photos* Most buyers of the base will be looking for something to do day to day work (documents and so on) and browsing. The only reservation I have is is the base memory. macOS isn't getting any smaller! Nor are the applications we run. For both Mac and WIntel, 8GB is looking like an option best avoided if you can afford the extra.

* With the caveat that it's probably best to shut everything else down when running any one Adobe application.
