Is the iPad Pro screen not bright enough in your opinion? Asking out of curiosity.
It is, but the samsung OLED tablets for example don’t get as bright and while I would like OLED, I wouldn’t want it at the expense of the current levels of brightness. I use my iPad on a terrace quite often and that 600 nits is really useful for me.

And I like the HDR peak brightness levels.

Personally I like the mini LED screen a lot but it does have that grey haze when used in dark rooms.
I basically am hoping for the same screen quality but without that compromise.

If that’s possible that is

I just purchased a new iPP 11 M2, which is replacing my 2020 model iPP 11. The only reason I am upgrading is the USB-C port on my 2020 iPP no longer works. I'll replace that part but I needed something right away. If that port didn't fail, I would not have upgraded to the new model, and if I had an M1 iPP, I think it would be a little foolish to upgrade to the M2 model. The M2 iPP is incredibly powerful, but the gains in performance over the M1 model are not major.

I own a 11" and 12.9 " Cellular 512gb. I am one to upgrade every year but I am going to sit this year out and be ready to go next year when the obvious bigger upgrade happens. What about you? I figure most M1 owners will skip this year.
Nah! I'll be keeping my M1. Still works like the day I got it last November, and the battery is still sitting at 100% capacity.

Literally the only reason is for the hover Pencil support. If you don’t need that the experience is basically 100% the same. Resale value didn’t change much on the M1s so the cost to upgrade wouldn’t be ridiculous but there is just no real reason…

Still loving my 12.9” M1 but the moment they release an 11” OLED I will probably switch to that. I just can’t go back to the inferior contrast and blacks.

Not sure what the holdup is on MiniLED for the 11” but seems a little weird it still doesn’t have it.
A hover cursor while drawing is something I’ve really wished was there for a long time, especially when using Sidecar. So that feature alone under normal circumstances would probably get me to upgrade (but I’m not actually going to upgrade for some other incidental reasons), even from an M1. But I’m sure I’m a minority.

Side note- I’ve seen online that hover kind of works on M1, but not nearly as well as on M2. That seems to suggest that there actually is a significant performance difference between the M1 and M2.

I bought the max configuration of my M1 iPad Pro (12.9, 2 tb, cellular) so that I would not HAVE to upgrade to a newer device any time soon.

I'm absolutely skipping the new M2!

That's not correct. I use both and the S8+ definitely gets as bright, if not brighter than my M2 iPP 11.
Well the S8+ gets about 480 nits and the iPad Pro is about 600 nits typical and the tab S8+ is more reflective

maybe you mean the colours are more vivid but that’s a Samsung setting, they tend to oversaturate the colours

The 12.9 is brighter than the Samsung. The 11 lacks the brighter better mini-LED screen… so of course your Samsung OLED display looks a bit better.

I bought an M2 iPad Pro 11”. I’m keeping my M1 iPad Pro 12.9” as well, but adding in another size. I can’t decide which size I prefer. I had the iPad Pro 10.5” as well until I passed it onto a family member around 18 months ago. I’ve since been missing that size, yet I’m not sure that I could give up the 12.9”. So here I am with both (for now anyway). I haven’t really upgraded though, it’s more that I’ve added another size.

2023 Will be skipped with No M3 iPad Pro in my humble opinion. As those 3nm Chips will be needed for other Apple products. 2019 was skipped.

And 2024 will offer a 3nm M3 iPad Pro but now it’s a dated year old CPU but a fancy display OLED everyone will jump on.

And 2024 will be a 3nm M4 probably 10 Cores and 12 Cores GPU but using less energy than an M2 from 2022.

It's good that they updated them with the M2, but not worth upgrading from an M1 iPad to the M2. I'd wait for an actual design change. I don't think upgrading to the M2 on an iPad would be worth the small hassle of transferring and setting up even if you won the lottery.

I'll be holding on to my M1 11", and when they make changes such as putting the camera in the correct location I'll pull the trigger on something new.

I can always justify (in my brain, not to anyone else) a year-over-year upgrade. But M1 to M2.. phew. Considering I never use the Apple Pencil nor will I edit a single video on my iPad, there is literally zero reason to upgrade.

I have both the 11" (work issued) and 12.9" 5G versions. They are both still extraordinarily fast.

No, I'm not. The only way I would consider it is if they would have increased the battery life. My M1 battery life on the 12.9 has never been very good. It drains constantly on standby no matter what settings I fool with. I think the M2 gets about the same so not doing it.

I upgraded because I have an annual budget to upgrade different technologies. If I don't use it, I lose it.

I did move to the M2 from my M1 but mainly because I intended to give the M1 to my wife who is using the 2018 3rd gen iPP. But she decided she wasn’t interested so I traded it in for the M2. But honestly there is no reason for anyone to do this if you have the M1. My guess is that device will be more than capable of anything needed for several more years, if not longer, it’s still more capable than most laptops out there. Actually my wife’s 3rd gen is more capable than most laptops I see.
