Like others, I don’t worry about who has the fastest CPU,GPU. There is so much more to the user experience. There are many threads talking about the fact users can hear the fans in the Mac Studio. Apparently, this is a big enough issue that people are taking back their Mac Studio over it (I have a Mac Studio Max). Yet, they want a computer that requires a great deal of performance to achieve the tasks they want. You really can’t have the fastest CPU, the lowest power draw, absolute silence, etc.

Intel’s philosophy is to give the CPU all the frequency, all the wattage, and watch the lava flow.

This is why Apple left Intel. That’s not the experience most Mac users want and that’s not even considering the user experience of the OS and software.

That's surprising to hear. The MBP's are reportedly pretty quiet so, with a lot more thermal dissipation capacity to work with, I assumed the Studio would be even quieter (certainly at least the Max).

Took a quick look, and it seems that's happening with both the Max and Ultra, and the main complaint is a whistling noise. So maybe this is a QC issue related to the bearings?

MBP will slow down on long workloads when CPU and GPU are utilized (16” less than 14”) Due to thermal throttling.

if you weren’t excited to see M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips installed in what amounts to a fan with a computer inside, you haven’t been paying attention.

I do think the number of people reporting a whine or whistle is a bit high considering the number of units shipped (indicating a manufacturing issue), but reports have slowed down considerably.

I’m running an 11th gen Intel i7 with an RTX3080 mobile.

Sure in some tasks this laptop crushes apple silicone at the same price point. But at everyday work related tasks there’s no benefit.

But you know what? With the heatwave and it being 30c in my office. I’d love to have the efficiency of AS and not be throwing out so much heat into an already warm room

Tbh I’m more impressed by the low power usage and much quieter performance than outright speed

My quad core imac puffs away like a steam engine on steroids while my mini which is beautifully silent in comparison just goes like a rocket a lovely quiet one

Yep, are there apples to apples performance comparisons that limit power consumption to 40W on both Intel and M1 Pro/Max?

Otherwise we can compare with an Intel chip at 7GHz under liquid nitrogen and see how much faster that bad boy is.
