Not sure if this is embarrassing or not... but the Apple technical expert didn't spot it either.

A few months back I took a subscription to Express VPN so I could watch UK football matches that weren't being broadcast in the UK. Connection was really flaky so I cancelled, and deleted the app. Unknown to me, the app left a VPN setting in Network Settings. Deletleted this and normal service has been resumed. Still not quite as fast as the old MBP but double the speed i had before.

Thanks for all the help

Reminder to those suggesting 80 MHz or 160 channel bandwidths that Apple devices only support up to 80 currently.

My Macs on Monterey have a strange problem that may be a bug in my networking equipment but if I have the "Airplay Receiver" turned on in the Sharing System Preference, I have terrible wifi performance. Turning it off allows the wifi to work as expected.
You solved my problems. Thank you. It was driving me crazy. My M1 Macbook Air and Mini were extremely slow and I just turned off AirPlay Receiver like you and they're both back to normal.

What sort of wifi equipment do you use?

Here's what made my MacBook Pro M1 go from lagging Wifi to insanely quick connection. It feels like the site is loading before I even press enter:

I hope it helps!

Side-by-side test.
2017 15" MBP on the left, M1 Pro on the right.
900 Mbps fibre connection, 5 metered from router

Any ideas?

Going through different servers if you look at the bottom. Do you get the same result if they go through the same server?

I could run the test through the same server, but that wasn’t a one-off. I’ve run the test a dozen times over the last few months. The M1 has never once even come close to the 2017 Pro

I'm too having WiFi issues with the M2 Air. Is the only device giving me trouble.
Sometimes I just notice that internet is really slow and then check the connection (Option + click on the WiFi icon).
At that point two things happened: the TX Rate is under 250 Mbps (and doesn't change) or the Mac is not longer using the AX protocol and is back to AC.

For the first case a restart fix the problem, for the second I need to forget and reconnect several times until it
pegs to the correct one. 😵‍💫

Working well now:

You haven't reported safe mode boot results. What happens if you login on a new user account.

Turning off Airplay Receiver under System Settings -> General -> Airdrop & Handoff fixed it.

I tried all the other proposed solutions too -- Bluetooth off (didn't work and wouldn't be good for me anyway) -- and this one did it.

Turn off AIRPLAY RECEIVER! Went from 200 Mbps down to 800 in an instant.

This intrigues me, because I have been getting 850-900 MBps with Airplay Receiver enabled. This makes me wonder what I might get with the feature disabled (which I will have to wait until I get home from work tonight to test).

Well .... I'll now report that I'm back to 200 - 300 Mbps results while my iPhone in the same location gets 2x. So who knows how to fix this.
