I can report a very positive experience with Zoom:
  • Camera quality looks better than any other Mac I have ever used
  • Absolutely silent, no fan noise at all
  • 40 minute call and battery went from 100% to 98%
Edit: 50 minute mark now and just dropped to 96%

Absolutely amazing stats.

I tend to also use in descending order: WhatsApp Video, FaceBook Messenger Video, Google Meet, Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Teams, Skype and WeChat.
Looking forward to your review.
Do you have an external webcam? If so, would you mind using it for maybe one session and see if there is any difference?

Zoom works fine on my MacBook 12", it is not really CPU constrained.
On the other hand it eats battery like crazy after a few minutes I run for the power cord while everyone is distracted 😅

Other video conferencing apps: Slack, BlueJeans, FaceTime

Sorry man. I'm usually travelling (usually lite as well), so I like everything in one package and thus no webcam.

Seems Skype is so outdated nowadays and nobody uses it anymore :D (I think Zoom is indeed better).
Please post here if anyone had a Skype call for an hour or so!!

Looking forward to see the Teams performance, it is really unbelievably bad on the older dual-core MBPs (I have the 2016 Pro 13"). With screen sharing and a few video-streams thrown into mix, the MacOS gets unusable and I swear I have seen the machine lifting once because of the fans going hyperspeed :) Zoom is lightning-fast compared to it, unfortunately my company has banned using Zoom for whatever purposes and we use Teams all the time...

Microsoft is killing Skype for Business, so companies have (or will) move to Teams.

Could someone tell me with a MacBook Pro if the fans go on using any Video conference software such as Skype, Zoom, Teams etc.?
I am asking because ppl wrote here if you do a lot of them get the MBA, because the fan sound would disturb the audio...
This would be kind of contradictive, having a better Mic but still being worse because of having a noisy fan ...

Nope. Dead silent on Zoom.

If I had to guess, Google Hangouts or whatever they call it this week would be most likely to run the fan.

I never use Hangouts. What about regular Skype?
Edit: and how warm gets your MBP after 60-90min non stop video conference ?

Because zoom is spyware built on a video conferencing feature.

Google is prime suspect A to get all of their websites and apps to run the fans of these M1

Have a MBP in the house that is used from 8am to 4pm on Zoom (one on one, though, not conference calls) all day bar an hours lunch. Fans never kick in and it doesn’t need to be plugged in to the wall all day.
