Notebookcheck finally put out a review. Seems they say the M1 is similar to the pro 5300M in many tasks and in gaming specifically closer to a MX 350. Given that some of the loads are under Rosetta 2 it is possible more performance can be squeezed out if optimized.

I wonder how CPU limited the games are at lower resolutions.

Doesn’t seem to be much. For instance on Europa Universalis 4 with fast universalis (with units) the game runs as fast as it does on an i5 10400f on windows. This game is highly reliant on single core but lowering gpu requirements seems to run it faster. The fact that this is the base M1 air with no fan is quite impressive to me. im running at 900p in this instance.
