I ended up getting a 13" instead of the 11" because I found a used 1TB M1 Cellular for a ridiculous price; 1150 with Pencil and Magic Keyboard. I'll deal with the larger size for that value.

If you already have MacBook, no point to pick the 12.9”. It’s a limited version of MacBook with only 1 plus: pencil & touch.

Because you don’t see a value in it… doesn’t mean people should share the same thoughts as you. And you forgot to mention… cellular support as well.

But I have a 14” MBP along with a 12.9 inch… I use TenOne Mountie+ and its nice to use it as a secondary display when away from my desk.

I constantly use my 12.9 iPad Pro as a secondary screen if im not using it for annotated notes. Very helpful and useful dual use of the iPad.

Yep! My 11" is sitting next to my 14" MBP right now.

Here's another point to help decide: are you going to spend more time using it or carrying it?

For me, the smaller size has meant being to use the iPad more often as I can carry it around in my purse all the time and use it anywhere.

Which is great - it's the reason why I have an iPhone. I carry it with me all the time and use it everywhere because it fits in my pocket.

Alas, I find iPhone displays (including Pro Max) too small for my liking. Even the iPad mini barely makes the cut.

Hence, I stick to 4.7" iPhones (pocketable even in women's clothing with tiny pockets) and just carry my iPad everywhere.

I bought a 12.9 M1 before the M2 came out. I bought an iPad because so many of the magazines I read or write for have gone digital, and 12.9 provided a reading experience comparable to paper.

Picked up an 11” today and wow, the way I can dock this and totally use it as a “computer“ with my 27” monitor Is crazy to me. Then if need be unplug and have this much performance just thrown in a bag. Noticing some quirks with stage view and how apps behave but I mean this initially really feels like Apple went from 0 to ~80% of creating an insanely capable, portable computer, that you can just dock and get “real work” done. I was kinda skeptical but color me impressed.

Just ordered the M2 ipad pro 11 inch. As much as I enjoyed the 12.9 pro I wanted a more portable experience given I have the 16 inch macbook pro. Also got the cellular version so I can use it out if I can. 12.9 pro is a tad too big when taking it with me to work for example. got a good deal on it so not like I got it for M2 as the M1 would have been fine. Hover feature will be cool i guess.

12.9 for the simple reason that the 11 one is not sufficiently differentiated from the Air (or even the regular 10 inch one) to justify the price increase.

Should the 11 one have an XDR display I would have gotten that in a heartbeat instead than my M2 12.9 that I recently got. Until that happens, Apple has so stupidly crowded that 11 inch form factor that it is actually hurting their sales, they shot themselves on the foot cuz the current lineup makes no sense at all.

They should have

- One 8 inch mini.
- One LOW END 10 OR 11 inch ( not both one 10 and one 11 as they have now)
- One MASSIVELY DIFFERENTIATED HIGH END 11 Inch.
- One high end 12.9
- NO 14 inch one as rumored . 12.9 is already pushing it.

Just my two cents.

I have both 11" and 12.9". What I've found is that the 12.9 stays in my office and I use it mainly to watch content on while the 11", being more portable, comes with me around the house and it's also the one I take with me when away for the weekend. I have the Magic Keyboard on both but find it just too heavy on the 12.9. I did take it away with me for a 5 day trip and man it was heavy in my backpack. IF I had to choose just one I'd have to pick the 11". As others have mentioned though, there is no right answer. Both are GREAT!!

If you are going to use the keyboard, 12.9 without a doubt. The keyboard on the 11" iPad sucks, it's too small and is not aligned how normal keyboards are.

I've been debating this forever. Just dropped my 11 inch and it has a small crack in the corner of the screen now. I could live with it but I ordered a new one. Then I changed it to the 12.9. Gets here tomorrow. I've been tempted for a long time but figured it's too big--but the last time I actually held it in the Apple Store was when it still had big bezels. I want to like it. I have bad vision so the big screen should be nice if it's not too unwieldy.

If this doesn't work might get the Galaxy Tab S8+. It's 12.4 inches. Played around with it in the Verizon Store and it seems like the PERFECT size. Not too big, not too small. It's baffling why Apple didn't pick a size like that but went all the way up to almost 13 inches.

The 12.9" is almost like 2x 9.7" iPads in portrait side by side.

12.9": 2732 x 2048

It depends on what you do. I have a 2019 27” iMac and a 2021 12.9” iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. If I were starting from scratch, I’d get a refurbished M1 MBP or M2 MBA, an external monitor (ideally, an Apple Studio Monitor, but I’m curious about the upcoming Samsung 5K monitor, although I could live with a good 4K monitor), and a 12.9” iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, but not the Magic Keyboard. I use my iPad Pro every day to watch video content while I’m on the treadmill, and I use the Pencil for art programs (primarily Procreate). I use the Mac for Adobe CC and other photo-editing programs, as well as Logic Pro, and I need a bit of portability.

As for the 12.9” vs. 11” iPad Pro, I’ve never felt that the 12.9” was too big or too heavy. I’ve used it on several cramped economy-class flights, and it’s fit just fine on the table tray.

If I didn’t use art programs with an Apple Pencil, and I had a MacBook Air or Pro, and I only wanted an iPad to watch videos while on the treadmill, then I’d get a standard iPad to save money.

For me personally the 11 inch is the perfect size. I do have an iPad mini so I don’t need my iPad Pro to be portable. At a push I could take the 11 inch out if I really had to. However the 12.9 is just too cumbersome for me. I would never take it out. Even at home the 12.9 would be too big for casual use. I can comfortably use my 11 inch pro on my lap. I also have a 13 inch MBA so there would be too much overlap in screen size if I had the 12.9 inch pro too.

For me I have the 11” but I use it as an iPad.

The next time the iPad Pros launch I am hoping I am able to ditch my MacBook and 11” iPad Pro and merge them into 1 device with the new Magic Keyboard (whatever form that may take).

Now deciding which size to go for is difficult… 12.9” is more laptop size, but it’s quite a bit more expensive and is bulky as a tablet. 11” is a bit too small as a laptop but is great as a tablet and is cheaper too.

Overall, I am really hoping that these rumours of 14” iPad Pros etc has some truth behind it and it’s actually the two screen sizes changing with the 11” becoming 12” and the 12.9” becoming a 14” because in this scenario I would jump all over the 12” especially if it retains the 11” aspect ratio… but if it’s still 11” and 12.9” by then I think I will stick with the 11” mainly because I will use the device as a tablet more than as a laptop.
