Derogatory talk? Where? Lmao! Do you understand what MSRP is? I also said I don't need 256gb but that flew over your head. As for your second to last question, maybe stop making assumptions, bud. If that stuff was important to me, maybe, just maybe, I would have kept the M4!! 😱
You don’t get how the numbers you mention are confusing when you compare them numbers you don’t mention, do you?
If you call me buddy, you do that to label and position me as inferior to you. If you don’t know how language works and what constitutes as derogatory, that’s entirely your problem, keep it that way.
And what are you talking about making assumptions about you? I don’t know your usecases, how am I supposed to not assume something, or list (objective) differences between devices.
When I talk about Pencil support, I talk about hardware differences. How would I know that that’s not important to you?
Oh, yeah, wait for your second reply, I guess. Great.
Either I can assume you care or I can assume you don’t, or I just list a difference that’s besides any assumptions.
Which is exactly what I did. Talk about stuff flying over heads. What I can assume tho is that you like to treat people worse than you need to and not like equals, probably for your own perceived self worth and ego.
I hope not, though. But towards me, you have been hostile or at the very least unfriendly and rude without any need for that, don’t act like you don’t know what kind of reaction you’re aiming for with the way you talk (write).
You complain about my „assumptions“, meanwhile you’re feeling like giving me career advices, assuming you must know better and I’m not good at retail because of that one comment.
Guess what, you’re not good at social interactions, so keep yourself where you keep your iPad and stay inside.
jk, I am good at marketing and selling things and I don’t know how you’re with people, just with me, and I hope you’re ususally not like this.

Concerning the storage, cool.
I didn’t mention it because it wasn’t important to me in that post. Don’t just assume I forgot about it.
You wanted less storage, you got it, congratulations.

And before you think you can have another go at me for my writing, English isn’t my first language.

In the end, if you’re happy with your purchase, that’s great.
It’s not the deal I would have taken, but that’s ok.

M2 M4 differences *honest version*

Screen: You can maybe spot the difference side by side with magnifier, maybe. And who is gonna compare those side by side? Only people who need to justify the purchase.

Chip: Unless you are super niche user who does some extremely power demanding stuff in iPad the only difference for you is gonna number printed on the spec sheet (4 instead of 2)

Thinner: If you buy iPad to look at it from the side and admire it’s thinner, you will notice the difference. If you buy iPad to use it as a tablet, you won’t.

So the real difference is… 🥁 price. Apple is so good at marketing it’s terrifying.

Regarding screen: honest version: Promotion is definitely something that is noticeable and does not require a magnifying glass.

Everything else: you’re absolutely right!

My verdict: people should buy what they can afford and enjoy.

My 2018 gen 3 WiFi iPad Pro 12.9” developed a hardware problem. Apple diagnosed it and said it was unrepairable. So I was forced to get a new one, or just abandon the platform.

For $650, they’d send me a refurbished replacement. I seriously considered doing just that, as my needs are modest. I use it every day for web browsing, Google Earth, reading books, viewing and occasionally editing photos, minor spreadsheet editing, and writing.

Then I thought I’d use the opportunity (or excuse) go for the M4 13”, and maybe even the cellular version. I figured it would last me another six or so years. However, with the magic keyboard it came to around $2200, plus tax.

A similarly-equipped 13” Air would be somewhere around $500 less than the M4.

I’ll be able to depreciate it on my income taxes (I do part time consulting), but couldn’t justify spending that much money for an iPad.

Then I started looking at the previous generation models. Given what I use it for, the M4 certainly isn’t necessary; but as long as I was replacing it, I wanted something a bit faster, and capable of taking advantage of Apple Intelligence. At minimum, an M1 chip.

In the end, what I wound up with is a very lightly used 2022 M2 iPad Pro 12.9”, cellular, with 1TB of storage and 16 GB of RAM, for just over $1200, including sales tax and a one year warranty. I don’t need that much storage, but the additional RAM may come in handy down the road depending on how AI pans out.

A bonus is that I didn’t have to buy a new keyboard. Mine’s pretty beat, but still works and is compatible with the 2022 model. And, if I can ever find the damned thing, my Apple Pencil 2 will work with it as well. I put it somewhere “safe” to keep out of a grandchild’s hands, and it’s still there, a year later. Sigh.

It’s been less than 24 hours since it arrived, but it’s snappier than the old one, and of course it works as it should. It feels like the right choice, for me.

Great choice and price! You knew exactly what you needed and got an awesome deal, well done.

No, you’re just not worth the time, big guy. Move along, this thread clearly isn’t for you. No need to let this live rent free in your head 🤣
Yeah I guess you’d say something like that.
That’s why I just wrote what was on my mind, so I’d be done with it.
In the end I was shocked as well how much it was but oh well. I didn’t expect anyone to read it, including you.

Dear diary 🤣
Now that you say that, I’m gonna take this off my chest (on-topic)

Did I already say that I absolutely love my 11” M2 iPad Pro? If you get the chance to buy one at a good price, do it! I really hate the fact that new M4 iPad Pro come with OLED screens and my eyes don’t feel comfortable with it… because otherwise, I’d be spending money into that awesome machine.

Although I’m still fantasizing about getting a 1TB version of the same M2 iPad Pro I’m using (and selling this one), with double the RAM and lots more of storage, and if I found a good deal of such machine here in Europe, I’d get it in a heartbeat. But at this point I’m not sure if getting another M2 device is a smart idea future-wise, because of how big the performance and efficiency jump with the M4 has been.

Damn, Apple, just give us an LCD iPad with an M4 SoC and a Pro-motion display! I know, it is very unlikely, and that was exactly the reason why I bought this M2 iPad Pro last year, because I knew this was probably going to be the last LCD iPad Pro. Thus, the last iPad Pro my eyes would be able to comfortably use for hours. In a way, I should be thankful that I was able to sell my 64GB 11” 2018 iPad Pro and for just a bit more, purchase this awesome 128GB 11” M2 iPad Pro, with double the storage and double the RAM.

But still, 128GB feel a bit constrained (although I have several USB-C SSDs to transfer the data), and the M4 chip is so efficient and awesome (single core, multi core, Machine Learning, Ray Tracing graphics, AV1 hardware decoder), that I would really just like to replace the logic board, swap this one with the new one, and call it a day. But I know that’s just in my dreams.

TL;DR: I love the iPad as a product, despite its limitations, and I feel jealousy of the new M4 machines but at the same time, my eyes wouldn’t handle the new OLED screens very well, so I’ll have to stick with the M2 model and pray for Apple to support M2 machines for a long time. After all, second gen Apple Products usually receive good support, right? Look at the ancient iPad 2 back in the day, or the awesome iPad Air 2 more recently… fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Pretty good buy that, if you wanted it cheaper I guess you could wait for the M2 Air to go on sale if you don’t want the Pro features but still get that M2 chip.

$599 for the 11" is a killer deal, same price as the M2 iPad Air. If you can live with the odd front camera placement, it's a pretty good upgrade over the Air (ProMotion specifically).
Pro-motion, display quality (despite both being LCD, the Pros usually have better color representation), four speakers (vs two on the Air) that are even better, slightly, than the ones in the new M4 iPad Pros, and a fast Thunderbolt / USB 4 connector vs a slower USB 3 Connector on the M2 Air. Oh, and Face ID vs Touch ID, if you prefer the former.

If you can live with the lateral front camera position and missing out on the new Pencil Pro features (after trying it, I think I could, I like the haptics but I don’t use the pencil that much), then you’d be better off with the old M2 iPad Pro than the current M2 iPad Air.

Also, if you manage to catch a good deal on the 1TB or 2TB M2 iPad Pro, you’ll be rewarded with 16GB of RAM! Which in the long run, especially with Apple Intelligence, it could really come in handy. On the M2 iPad Air, even the 1TB model comes with just 8GB of RAM.

I couldn’t agree more with your post, especially with that last sentence. How they managed to make me desire that new iPad Pro just because of the awesome M4 SoC (which is a state of the art chip, not gonna lie, but I’d never make full use of it if I’m being honest). Apple is scary good at marketing, for sure.

I went with this deal. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Best Buy also was generous in trade-in values. I traded in my iPad Air (4th generation, 2020) and got $50 more trade in value than what anyone else was offering.

Net price for me was $350ish, in return I got a new battery, new warranty, an estimated 2 more years of iPad OS support, doubled storage, 120hz display, and a M2 that is up to 3x faster for graphics. It also still supports my Apple Pencil 2 and even my screen protector.

I missed the boat the first time around a few weeks ago. It’ll come back if they still have inventory to sell. Maybe a Labor Day weekend sale?

Amazon Prime Day Deals are coming up next week so I’d be on the lookout then. Usually, other retailers offer deals as well to compete.

This was the second time they went on sale for that price. Assuming they’re cleaning out the stock.

Best Buy has the 11" M4 (256GB WiFi) for $899 if you're a Best Buy Total Member. They have an Open Box in Excellent condition (essentially a return that's been hardly used) for $823.99. Just snatched one up at my local Best Buy. And it includes Apple Care+ for 2 years at no additional cost.
