Last year I purchased a Late 2012 Mac Mini (16GB Ram + 1TB HDD), and I'm running an unsupported version of macOS Ventura on it.

Would I see a lot of difference with an 8GB Ram + 512 SSD M2 Mac Mini?
I have the same computer (2012, Monterey 16GB + 1.5TB SSD) and this Mac Mini M2 will blow your 2012 Mini into another dimension, shattering space time continuum. There's no comparison.

Thanks for your advice.

So I should get both system Mac Mini M2 Pro & possibly NUC PC or PC Laptop.

What’s the different between regular desktop /laptop and NUC especially on the intel CPU?
I have successfully made my Windows 11 Laptop obsolete when installing Windows 11 22H2 ARM in UTM on my MBA M2.

There is no Software that did not run, some Network SQL WinSCP stuff ( Nordpass ) and even old VB6 Programs with access to 32bit MariaDB Driver + Office365.

Before i was accessing my Win11 Laptop via Remote Desktop.

I have also installed the Ubuntu VM´s ( Arm ) via UTM, they where on the Win11 via Hyper-V.

Freakin fast!

Thanks my friend and I will check it out more about UTM, however I never heard about them before only VMware or Parallels.

Can you even run Windows 10 pro 64-bit / MSSQL and IIS or do they offer Windows 10 pro for ARM?

If I recall correctly the Mini doesn't have user-upgradeable RAM. If you want the extra RAM you have no choice but to pay Apple's vig.

Correct.

All of the Apple silicon devices are 'system on chip' where memory is integrated into the same package as the CPU itself.

This article neglected to mention the the option of configuring the new Mac Mini with a 10Gb ethernet port.

ordered M2 pro yesterday...will replace an i5 MM thatʻs been long in the tooth for a couple years now. happy with the options/configurations, which should serve most users well. probably didnʻt need the pro, but just wanted the extra ports on the back...and future-proofing a bit.

will be critics/haters all the time about what it doesnʻt have or canʻt do...but the M2 starts at $499 education price, which is a fantastic price even for the base model, which will do everything the "normal" person needs it for.

What specs did you do on yours? I can figure out if i want m2 24gb or m2 pro 16gb.

You can "Emulate" X86 Systems to install even Windows 7, but keep in mind that this is slow......
There seems to be an Windows 10 20H1 ARM64-ISO Version, but i did not test it.
As i use XAMPP for SQL i do not have any experience with MSSQL and IIS, just try it.

The Win11 Arm and Ubuntu Arm are "Virtualized" and therefore freakin fast.
Activate the Arm Version of Win11 with the old Win7 Keys, it took 10 Minutes to wait activating but worked.
The Win11 VM is also listed in my Microsoft Account now.

For the Ubuntu 22 Arm i Downloadet the Server Image and installed KDE afterwards with:
apt Install kde-plasma-desktop

Copy the Presets for VM´s into:
/Users/UserName/Library/Containers/com.utmapp.UTM/Data/Documents

Once 1 VM is in UTM you can right Click to show in Finder:

For full dedicated Network i attached an USB ETH Adapter.
Find out the relating enX enter in Terminal:
networksetup -listallhardwareports

Then enter this en5 for example into Network Preferences of the VM in UTM as bridged and disable IP4 and IP6 for that Adapter in OSX:

Definitely gonna order one of these later in the spring. The configuration I'm eyeing would cost around $1900 - 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD (as it's going to replace my 2012 quad-core i7 Mac Mini as my main desktop, and also being a desktop I want it to have more RAM and storage than my M1 MacBook Air - I prefer having larger storage drives in desktops and slightly smaller ones in laptops, though I did order my Air with a 512 GB SSD as I would be using it a lot before eventually getting a beefed-up Apple Silicon desktop).
As for the design, I'm not surprised it has the same port selection as the beefed-up Intel model it replaces; I'm just glad it's got four Thunderbolt 4 ports. Too bad it's only available in Silver, as the Space Gray option looked cool, but it should still suit me just fine.

Does anyone know if the new Mac minis all have the same power cable regardless of configuration? Do they also have the same power cable as the M1 Mac minis? I can't find exact info on website.

The input connector looks the same to me.

Previous model reference:

As far as I am aware, the only change has been the cord sleeve color.

P.S. If it matters for reassurance, my 2012 Mac mini power cord worked fine with my M1.
