It's funny how many people here are commenting that this is such an old game, not realizing that it's a complete graphical remake from the ground up. This is the 3rd or 4th RE game they've done this with. In other words, this isn't a new situation for Capcom.

Why comment on stories when you clearly have no idea what's going on?

A couple of questions.
1. should you use metalFX or turn it off and set everything manually.
2. How do you display the frame rate?

Thanks

I myself turn it on for my M3 Max 16", it "boosts" frame rates but at the expense of some other issues, which are hard to describe so you need to visualize yourself to see if you notice.

The frame rate counter can be enabled by "Metal Performance HUD", there are two to three different commands to do this in Terminal depending on your OS version, you can easily google what the commands are.

How is performance on M2Max, did anyone try?
And what about save games, is it possible to load the progress from iPhone? When in RE Village I turn game on iPad Pro instead of iPhone, the game frozen and I had to install again from scratches

Can't really say with the Max, but I have an M2 Pro Mini and I was constantly in the 80-85FPS range @1440 on an old TB display. Everything is set to high/max with VSync off.

As far as the save files, yeah, there is an option to cloud save the game.

Random aside, Death Stranding looks amazing on my TB display, and like RE4, I'm consistently hitting 80+ FPS.

Cannot use an external monitor on the m3max MBP. it defaults to 640x480 and as soon as you try to change the resolution it freezes
What monitor is it? Can confirm it works a treat on the Pro Display XDR but maybe the apple hardware compatibility is helping...

Where do you get the remake? Resident Evil 4 on the Mac App store shows a version 1.0.1 released 1 day ago, but initially released (0.1.0) 2 months ago ....

This is the “remake” we are discussing.

The “original” only exists on other platforms.

Others already replied but you are misunderstanding the comparison. Those are the minimum recommended cards to run the game at low details at 1080p (60 fps). OP is running the game at maximum detail at essentially 4k resolution. That's about what a desktop RTX 4080 will do (people using 4090s are getting 100 to 120 FPS max quality at 4k).

Comparable performance to a desktop 4080 (a $1200 card if you can buy one [but you might be able to buy a used one for $1000]) in a laptop is very solid for a machine not really designed for gaming. Yes, it's a $4000 laptop ($3700 with education discount) but there's a lot more going on in that machine than just a GPU.
With RT, which the Mac version doesn't have. And not using any upscaling. It's not really comparable.

It’s great to see AAA gaming in these 3nm M3 Macs, but for now gonna stick to my £150 Xbox Series S and game pass!

The game itself is an 18 year old game, which granted, has been specifically coded for the M-series with graphic improvements.

That said, I am surprised if it's running at native display support or the "retina" resolution.
The worst take on the forum goes to…YOU!
Are you serious? Have you played the…REMAKE?

Same. I have the impression that Apple is getting serious at gaming, but I’ve always been a console guy.

I’ve thought about getting the RE4 Remake on my M2 iPad Pro, but I’m afraid of pushing the SoC so far, and making the iPad run so hot.

Makes no Sense. A Gamer PC that costs the same doubles the gaming power. Never buy a Mac to play games. I have both, Macs for work and PC for fun.
I didn't buy a Mac to play games, I bought it for prosumer photo/video editing and music production :) I pretty much exclusively play games on my PS5 - but it sure is awesome to be able to play RE4 at max settings on my Mac :)

Mac gaming has always been a crap shoot. Some years and periods have been better than others with some good game ports and reasonable game play along with some top tier titles, but most years have been lean and inconsistent. Twenty plus years ago, Mac gamers pinned their hopes on HALO and then MS bought Bungie and, well, look how that turned out for Mac users.

I’m not going to tout some grand beginning of a Mac gaming renaissance because there was never an era of “Mac Gaming” anyways. My point was that every time someone has anything positive to say about their experience gaming on a Mac, out come the toxic creeps who shill for NVIDIA like it’s their religion. Apple “fanboys” have nothing on NVIDIA zealots who have the absolute thinnest skins I’ve ever seen. Not just here but on gaming and tech enthusiast websites. So many d*ck swinging contests it’s insufferable. No rational discourse, everyone seems to be stuck developmentally at around age 12.
I would suggest ignoring him. His profile activity is hidden which probably means he goes around trolling the forums. Don’t cross his bridge for he will assail you with his incoherent volatile sputum that drools from his hideous lips…lol.

I am about to purchase the same laptop on Jan and do similar work (photo). I also do my primary gaming on my PS5 but like to hear that the new M3 Max has such high performance on a nice macOS title.

I have gamed on my Mac my entire life, up until getting a PS5 last year. I have played so many great titles on my iMac 27 from 2013. Can't wait for a huge performance increase lol

A Mac makes a ton of sense for gaming. If we can get the amount of games released for Mac to grow, then we all don’t have to buy a separate “gaming laptop”…because that what world needs is more electronic waste.

I'm playing at 3200x1800 as posted above, and I have almost all settings on Max. Keep in mind this resolution is only about 70% of full 4K, so you may have to turn down some settings if you want to output to your 4K tv (as a previous poster put here).
I turned off MetalFX but the fps drops to the 30-40fps
And what will be the fps in full 4K resolution and at maximum settings with MetalFX disabled?
