With the new M4 iPad Pro, you have the ability to set the charging limit To 80%. For those who have had the M4 for a month, has this feature worked consistently for you, and have you noticed it charging to 100% occasionally, Ike the iPhone does under the same settings?

I wish we have the ability to use an app like AlDente Pro with iPads.

What's the verdict AR, you liking it? Keeper?
I really like it thus far. It is faster surfing the web than my MBP, which I don’t quite understand. I haven’t come across a frustrating negative point, yet, although that will probably happen sooner or later. Day 1 says I am keeping. Hopefully, that continues.

Nice, it's a hard sell.
13" 512gb with keyboard is $2928AUD with edu or 14" MBP 18/512GB $2969 with 10% off.

You notice the screen any better on the iPad v the MacBook?

I find that even though I have the 80% limit turned on for my 15pm, it’ll charge to 100% once or twice per week to calibrate. I’d imagine it’s the same with the m4ipps.

Interesting that it may charge to 100% to calibrate. I had never heard that but just noticed my iPad has been off the charger all evening and is at 90%. I’ve never changed the limit to “none”, it’s always been at 80%

It's interesting to me to see people embracing this "solution". The limit is for people neurotic about their battery health, so to maintain battery health, they live with a device that exhibits the functionality of a badly degraded battery. Makes no sense to me. I have always used my devices and enjoy them. When the battery needs replacing, I replace the battery.

Very bad take on this feature. If you are around a charger most of the time, or like to leave it on a charger, might a well keep the battery health good rather than always charge it to/keep it at 100% for no reason. It’s an option, so people who need the extra 20% can keep it off, people who don’t can keep it . I doubt many people are going without using their iPad at the end of every day because they would rather only charge it to 80% and let it die on them all the time

I do the sane thing with my iPhone, but I turn the optimized charging off every Friday evening and back on every Sunday evening because the only time I come close to using up my battery is on the weekends

You aren't a better person than someone who turns the 80% feature on. Give it a rest.

I agree for phones, but Apple dont replace iPad batteries very easily, at least here in the UK. My 5.5 year old 2018 iPP has a terribly battery, yet Apple claim it is >80% health wise and so won’t replace it. Conversely, I could walk in with my 90% battery health on my iPhone and they would replace it on the spot. They want nothing to do with iPads which is a shame as my 2018 iPP is great otherwise and i’m not going near a third party.

Yep, same here, although I recently replaced it with an M4.

iPad battery replacement is a bad joke, things might change in this regard by the time the M4 battery is poor in 5 years or so, but I’m not hopeful.

And I’m the same, no way was I ever going to take my otherwise fine 2018 to a 3rd party.

I’d likely use the feature on the iPhone if mine was capable, I use it as little as possible so 80% charge would easily be enough. My launch 13PM still has about 50-60% charge at the end of the day and I usually only charge it to about 93%, or whenever I remember to take it off the charge. I only dip into the 50s when I use Maps.

It’s a shame, but my 2018 iPP is still fine otherwise. Tempted to upgrade to the 256gb 13in M4 Pro, but £1300 is a lot for something with no new features (that I would use) over my current iPad. I’d essentially be getting a nicer screen and better battery.

Yep, I understand the reluctance.

In my case, I use it a tonne outside/on the go for work, so the nano texture screen immediately piqued my interest. The bump to 5G from LTE has been great and I love that function row.

If I used it purely at home on wifi I’d likely have waited a bit longer. The 2018 is still excellent.

Ah, ok. I just tether from my phone on the rare occasions i dont have wifi.

I can also sell my 2018 Pro and 2ng gen pencil for probably around £250-300, so the cost of change is c.£1,000. The risk of keeping the 2018 Pro longer is that it is worth virtually nothing so I may not actually be saving money by using it longer if that makes sense. Tricky one.
