They need to get out a new Mac Pro.. they cant keep leaving it behind.
Release it with the option for upgradeable RAM and compatibility with third-party graphics cards (as an additional layer) or get rid of it.

The Mac Pro can't do anything better than the Studio, but costs 20% more

Even Apple doesn't use this thing.

Good the base MBA will have more Ram
but I hope Apple will also release a new iPad pro with thinner bezels, wifi 7, better battery and nano glass as an option on the base model 🤞

I see Apple's treating the Mac Studio like all of its more recent Pro desktops, and neglecting to release basic updates for it. I can't imagine it would be that difficult for Apple to just drop in the newer SoC in these models, it has to be a delivery choice to ignore them. Even if they're having issues getting the M3 Ultra out, I'm sure a lot of people would just be happy with an M3 Max desktop. I'm sure the Ultra is the least sold version, anyway.

If the rumors are true that we're getting a much smaller Mac mini, I wouldn't mind seeing the Studio have an entry level base M3 or M4 variant. There would still be a feature gap between a super compact mini and an entry-level Studio, so we would still be worth offering that kind of configuration.

Channel analysts believe that desktops make up 10% of Mac sales (5% iMac, 3% Mac Pro and 1% each Mac Studio and Mac mini). If anywhere near close to true, I am not surprised Apple skips a generation on the desktops as the demand is not there. I mean how many people replace their Mac desktops every three years, much less every year? It has to be a fraction of a fraction of a percentage.

Apple wanted to be "first!" to 3nm at scale on phone/tablet/PC and were willing to accept a "substandard" process to achieve it, but only for product that could sell enough to make it worth the while. And that meant the iPhone, iPad and MacBook families.

I personally believe Apple never planned to offer M3 on the Studio and Mac Pro and therefore the UltraFusion connector was omitted from the M3 MAX because there would never be an M3 ULTRA. I would not at all be surprised if the M4 MAX has the UltraFusion connector back so two of them can be paired to form an Ultra, though I would prefer Apple develop a custom Ultra SoC going forward to better utilize all those cores and memory.

Makes sense, but sucks as well.

I still dont buy those numbers, I have a hard time believing that the $6k developer and professional focused workstation most consumers and even many pros dont even know exists outsells the consumer focused machine that’s often on sale at Costco for $400 3:1.

Maybe someday Apple’s actual sales numbers will leak and we’ll find out.

I just don't use the internal storage. if you get a WD black 2, 4, or 8TB drive and use a thunderbolt 4 acasis encasement ya get pretty great storage.
I have a DAS and NAS attached, but for really big video files, 512Gb just isn’t enough. Add in the suspected 48Gb of RAM and likely 100% speed increase over M1M, it’s compelling.

Plus my son will inherit my Studio to replace his M1 Mini.

I think the absolute accuracy of those number is at least a few percentage. So the fraction of particular desktop numbers to other desktop models if highly questionable (e.g., # of Mac mini vs # of Mac Pro). I do believe that the general trend that MacBook sales dominate the number of all Mac Sales is pretty accurate, and the Apple Mac Desktop sales represent just small minority of all Mac computer sales.

Well they are for the US only, so that might skew the Mac Pro higher because of those professional and commercial sales. The Mac mini has a bunch of niches, but each niche is exceptionally small. So I could see the Mac Pro moving more units per year than the Mac mini and Mac Studio.

Eh, I still dont buy it. If the mini was twice the price maybe, but it’s in impulse buy territory for a lot of folks when its on sale

Also a lot of cloud vendors and dev shops and the like snap up minis in massive quantities for build machines which I would imagine on its own mitigates some of that possible US-centric advantage for the MP because most of the big cloud vendors et al are US based too

But really it’s all speculation, only Apple knows for sure
