How many degrees should the m2 air be when it is running?
Is 44-46 degrees normal with everything turned off in the background?

Something sounds off. Mine is a M2 MBP so I have no direct comparison, but the case was getting hot and uncomfortable sounds wrong for M2 SoC. I do not chase temp readings, just how it feels, and my M2 MBP never approaches anything like the case was getting hot and uncomfortable. So should I be happy for the m2 air 🙂
But
When it was 44-45 C, the case was getting hot and uncomfortable.
How much RAM in the MBA? Sounds like you may be driving past limiting RAM and the OS is managing SSD swap etc.It does not get very hot in normal use. When I open many pages, it gets very hot in safari like this.

Yes,I felt.Is it really 44-46C? If it is, you should feel that with your hand. I suspect it's an incorrect reading. That number is no concern for the health of the machine. It's just not normal for what you described.
Which with application did you measure the temperature? I used to TG PRONot a direct comparison, but here is my M1 MacBook Air at idle:
That’s iStat Menus.Which with application did you measure the temperature? I used to TG PRO
Yep. It’s pretty normal for my MBAM2 and 16 MBP. I am not obsessive over every little detail till it bothers me.That’s iStat Menus.
45 degrees sounds pretty normal for an MacBook Air. My MacBook Pro stays around the same temperature under light use.
Your laptop should be able to handle the CPU temp and prevent the laptop surface from getting too hot. My work station runs around 65-95 C before it starts throttling. Usually laptops are ok below 60C.Thank you everyone.
I'm confused. Some said it's normal, some said it's not normal.🥹
Thank you 🙏🏻I suggest:
A) Identify a workflow using stock apps (Safari, etc.) that causes what you perceive to be too hot.
B) Take your MBA to an Apple Store and replicate that workflow on their counter model MBA of the same size and on your MBA at the same time.
C) Starting cold, operate both MBAs identically and see if different temperatures are felt after 15 minutes of operation.
If your MBA is noticeably hotter, attract an employee and say "look at this." If they are similar, fuggedaboutit.
