Well my Macbook was suppose to be picked up today for repair but nobody came - so I called Apple, immensely angry by this point.

After about a short 20 minute phone call, they happily agreed to replace my machine. So yay! I'll be going through that process now, just glad to be getting rid of this wonky little thing.

Thank you all for your advice :)

Like everyone else on the same road, all of you lovely folk out there, since being introduced to Apple I've remained faithfully dedicated to their beautifully crafted, breathtaking and innovative products, or I was until yesterday evening when, for the first time in seven long years, I contemplated switching back to Windows.

Since buying my Macbook Air in July, I've had a HD failure, a faulty screen hinge mechanism, a faulty WiFi card, a broken microphone and now, my keyboard seems to be faulty as keys are sporadically deciding to stop responding, most notably, the return (enter) key, which refuses to at all.

I really don't know what to do at this point: It's going away tomorrow for it's umpteenth repair and I'm left lingering with the feeling that this will be it for the rest of it's lifespan, constantly having it break down on me when I need it most and thus having to go a week or two at a time, not to mention that I live a fair bit away from my nearest Apple store after moving.

I'm not one to complain, I'm really not - I always defend Apple against the usual hoards of haters, but I feel helpless at this point and unable to even justify what I'm supporting, I splurged my savings on a beautiful machine that in turn has done nothing but let me down...

So what I'm leading up to here is, as I slowly lose faith in Apple, would there be any point in me pursuing AppleCare for a replacement machine? I don't want an Air, anymore, I don't like them - I don't trust them. I'll take anything, even if it's lower-spec, so long as it's reasonable - but I don't even think they do that.

I don't know, I need some advice. Help? :(

didn't read the whole thread, only this first post...

call 1-800-My-Apple, explain how many repairs you have had, and ask for a CRU (customer replacement unit)...you MORE than meet the criteria for a replacement unit...if you do it at an apple retail store, they will most likely upgrade you to a REV B macbook air also :)

Trust me, you got a lemon. I've bought two Apple laptops, one iBook G4 and one MacBook. The iBook G4 was great, but was stolen. The MacBook, one in my signature, has a faulty logic board that cripples the battery. Battery is fine, but the connection isn't. The Apple Store took it in for free (well they "charged" my Dad $85, but that was just to cheat the system) and even repaired my Dad's cracking top case (the palm rest problem) for free.

How frustrating. Better luck with this new one.

NOT a religion!

Like TarHeel Basketball is a GAME.
Shelby Cobra is a CAR.
Straduvarius is a VIOLIN.
The Sistine Chapel ceiling is just a MURAL.

My apple is how i often communicate, express myself, pay my bills, record the history of my children growing up, and make my life easier! I appreciate it all the more because at work I use WINBLOWS and I know the difference.

(TarHeel Basketball> which is a religion> the Dean Dome is a Chapel, Dean Smith is a God>>>>>>>>Apple is a religion>OSX is a Chapel, Steve Jobs is a God.)

****The above is somewhat satirical; I am a Christian with only ONE real GOD****

LOL, loved the avatar!, oh and "GO DUKE"

With another Air? I thought I read you didn't want or trust another. Regardless, hope next one is a keeper.:)

Apple are starting to mess me around.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/648511/

Following on from my previous thread to which I concluded with the fact that Apple have agreed to replace my laptop, I seem to be absolutely nowhere.

It was meant to be picked up on Monday for repair, nobody arrived (a day I had to take off work) - nobody even called to explain. After a brief phone call with customer relations around 6PM, they graciously agreed to replace my über faulty machine. Fair enough, fine, I didn't even care at this point about waiting all day for nothing if I was being assured that much.

The person I spoke to told me that I'd get a call back from him sometime between 11-2pm the follow day, IE: Today, I wait an extra hour, nothing.

I call them myself, I get transfered to a woman whom seriously can only be described as the most patronizing Apple worker I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

Hang up (I shouldn't have, I know) - check my inbox, no email.

Call back, same woman - whom, I have to say at this point, should not be working at Apple. She really should not. She promised me that this email would arrive with 24 hours and that the person whom I originally dealt with after the courier didn't arrive would call me today.

I am furious. Angry. Beyond angry at this point.

I keep being told that people will call, people will turn up to collect items, people will email, people are always apparently getting in touch with me but I'm simply waiting around for such communications that don't materialize.

I'd call back and fight it more, but it's fruitless, I don't know what to do at this point

Although you shouldn't have to, can you get to an Apple Store or reseller to deal with someone face to face? I know Apple will send you a replacement without sending yours in if you sign an agreement saying you will it back. Get on the phone and stay on the phone until you get an email tracking your replacement.

Just Don't Understand

You know? I've studied this website since Apple introduced the Macbook Air all the while trying to find out what was the right decision on buying one. I decided to wait until a second incarnation was forthcoming and at that point I decided to buy. I purchased the SSD version and I can say without hesitation or equivocation, it was a stellar purchase. All this stuff on here about people having problems is curious to me cause I have not experienced any of it. Had I listened to the posts here I would have bought the HD first version and "upgraded" to a theoretical SSD hard drive as prices came down. The only good advice I received from posters on this sight was to wait until a second version of the Macbook Air arrived to work out little "kinks".
To those of you who need "lite" and have read this far and if you can swing it, go with the SSD version. You will not be sorry. It's a fantastic machine. Though I suspect the 2nd HD version is stellar too but I liked the idea of no moving parts on a product that was going to be dragged around the globe from Chicago to Tim Buk Tu. For all the stuff Apple does right and sometime wrong, I can say with pride, "I am not a PC, and damn proud and happy not to be so". If your interested in an ultra-light laptop that does it all, this is the unit for you, PC or Mac, it's the best on the market, bar none. Now have at it boys.

After three repairs it qualifies as a lemon and you can demand a brand new model.

As far as being surprised, Apple manufactures their computers just like everyone else - they don't. Everything is outsourced to OEM's like Quanta. There is really very little difference between Apple's computers and anyone else.

I'm having the same problem with Apple and my iMac. I'm hoping that the Apple Store I've taken it to will fix it this time. Otherwise, that's 3 times.

No it isn't. It's the least they can do according to warranties and what should be standard of care. I find Apple to be appalling compared to larger PC companies such as Dell <gasp> when it comes to problems.

They can and should replace this whole lemon scented air.
And Dell does this? I laugh. I'm in the process of trying to get a refund for a Dell computer, 7 days outside of their 21 satisfaction garuntee. It's been two months now, the the CPU fan spinning well over its maximum RPM and the display drivers continue to crash. The fan has been replaced three times, the GPU twice. I've received a new unit with the same problems, the fan and GPU replaced again. Then a mother board, GPU and HDD. If someone was to ever buy from Dell, I'd downright feel sorry for them.

The drivers have been updated approximately ten times on the new unit. The OS reinstalled three times. Ah well, time to get the Attorney General involved.
