But #2 gets a lot wrong from my machine's SN.
^^^^Link #2 is actually the better link. More information and more accurate information. That's my link of choice and I have never found it wrong. I posted link #1 just to give a choice.

Doesn't work with the serial number from my machine at all. I know it's not a fake machine since I bought it at the Apple store. The link gives NO results, serial number not recognized.
Hi CrJackson. I am assuming you purchased your Mac Pro as Brand New from Apple and it's a 2012 model. This also happened to me when I entered the serial no. of my brand new 2012 Mac Pro and got "No Results" or SN not recognized. I am guessing maybe 2012 Serial Nos are not yet in their database yet.
Another Tip. The Apple Serial Info site only allows up to 2 serial number check for every 24 hours If you entered more than 2 serial nos before the 24hr lapse, you will get a message or offer to pay an annual subscription for entering unlimited serial numbers. BTW you have a powerhouse machine there.![]()
I bought my about 6 months ago. Maybe it'll work next year. Doesn't really matter, just thought I'd have a look/see.
Just checked the 1st link... It says that my SN does not exist in their database... It won't let me add it either.

Well, I just bought a new Macbook Air, a 2012 model that was built in April of this year. The Serial Number shows up in both of the links I posted above. One thing to be careful of is Capitol Os (O) vs. Number Zero (0).

So I got the computer, which seems to be what I was supposed to get, at least if I trust both what the "About this Mac" says and what the Apple Serial Number site says, which identifies this computer as 2010 model built either in China or the Check Republic.
See screen shot. I have not been able though to identify what the serial numbers for the tray and hardware UUID imply as far as history or origin.
If you have more science in that domain, please let me know.
Why would anyone put a 2010 motherboard in a 2009 case?
What is the condition of the case and does the serial numbers match the case vs what "About this Mac" tells you.
Yes, there is nothing there. If there ever was a tag, it has been removed.

Hmm, why would someone remove remove the machine's IDThat is puzzling to me.
