But #2 gets a lot wrong from my machine's SN.

^^^^Link #2 is actually the better link. More information and more accurate information. That's my link of choice and I have never found it wrong. I posted link #1 just to give a choice.

Doesn't work with the serial number from my machine at all. I know it's not a fake machine since I bought it at the Apple store :) . The link gives NO results, serial number not recognized.

^^^^I really don't know how to respond. It's worked on every machine I've tried it on. Mine and my clients. Never had an issue.

Hi CrJackson. I am assuming you purchased your Mac Pro as Brand New from Apple and it's a 2012 model. This also happened to me when I entered the serial no. of my brand new 2012 Mac Pro and got "No Results" or SN not recognized. I am guessing maybe 2012 Serial Nos are not yet in their database yet.

Another Tip. The Apple Serial Info site only allows up to 2 serial number check for every 24 hours If you entered more than 2 serial nos before the 24hr lapse, you will get a message or offer to pay an annual subscription for entering unlimited serial numbers. BTW you have a powerhouse machine there. :)

I bought my about 6 months ago. Maybe it'll work next year :). Doesn't really matter, just thought I'd have a look/see.

Just checked the 1st link... It says that my SN does not exist in their database... It won't let me add it either.

Best to just move forward and enjoy your Mac Pro. I guess it does not matter if it's in their database. Your Mac Pro is quite powerful.

Well, I just bought a new Macbook Air, a 2012 model that was built in April of this year. The Serial Number shows up in both of the links I posted above. One thing to be careful of is Capitol Os (O) vs. Number Zero (0).

The SN was a copy and paste from the system profiler. I'm sure that's not the issue. Anyway, it's not important, I just wanted to have a look at the page.

So I got the computer, which seems to be what I was supposed to get, at least if I trust both what the "About this Mac" says and what the Apple Serial Number site says, which identifies this computer as 2010 model built either in China or the Check Republic.

See screen shot. I have not been able though to identify what the serial numbers for the tray and hardware UUID imply as far as history or origin.

If you have more science in that domain, please let me know.

What is the condition of the case and does the serial numbers match the case vs what "About this Mac" tells you.

Why would anyone put a 2010 motherboard in a 2009 case?

I built a hex 5,1 myself... OP could, too:

2.26 quad core 4,1 2009 Mac Pro $700-900
Flash EFI 4,1 to 5,1 $donate to Netkas
NEW 3.33 hex core Xeon Westmere < $600
NEW ATI5770 $250 (lots of other more powerful choices)

TOTAL: $1550 - 1750 plus Netkas Tribute

The case is in quite good condition, just a few minor scratches, but I can't find S.N. on it.

Is it normal that this computer does not like being put to sleep? Waking it up seems to be prone to freeze.

^^^^The physical serial number is located here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2584

Lou

Yes, there is nothing there. If there ever was a tag, it has been removed.

As I was menti0oning in my previous reply, this computer seems to have a problem with sleep. I constantly do batch of scans, and normally a computer is supposed not to go to sleep while the batch is folowing its course, but this one does under Mountain Lion, and that of course interrupts the batch which sometimes has a problem resuming. Is this a known issue? Mac Distributors told me that especially with an SSD like I have, they recommend not letting the computer go to sleep, the display sure, but not the computer.

Whats the verdict

What is your feeling now after having used the computer for some time. Would you order another system from them? Has it worked like you anticipated?

i am in the process of talking to edit builder which....

seems to be a related part of that company... i was interested in getting a 12 core 2.4 mac pro for my protools rig ..... so what's the final synopsis? how does the machine run..any issues?? they have a 100% rating on ebay and all their computer buyers are happy and left stellar feedback... only 1 says they didn't get what they ordered ...plus they are "top rated plus" sellers and on ebay it says that ebay monitors those level sellers very scrupulously ..so if they were doing something wrong or selling bad gear then i'm sure they'd lose that rating... ANYONE have any more info on them? http://www.ebay.com/usr/edit.builder.store
