.mac + Google + iPhone=Secret Features

Trust me when I tell yall. If you don't believe it, you will on the 11th.

.mac is significantly improved and has some special features: syncing contacts, bookmarks, etc (duh), but also an entire office suite online thanks to google, a portable desktop much like that of eyeos.com but completely mac-ed out. expect steve to answer all those whiners complaining the iPhone is not a true business device. I've seen pix of the new .mac on iphone- truly groundbreaking and can't believe others haven't put all these online advancements together so simply before.

oh yeah. next gen iphones will have gps built in.
 
I don't know, I've been watching Punkwaffle on the board and I trust him/her.

Maybe it's only because they bring good news, but hey...

That all sounds awesome! Do you think we will find out more info regarding plan prices, whether or not a data plan is required, etc on Monday as well?

thanks. there are so many haters on here.
i have no reason to make stuff up. it's an exciting time to be a mac nerd. and if i happen to come across more info in the near future, i will pass it along.

fyi- i haven't used an iphone, but have seen more than a few docs about whats to come. that's all. this google apps/.mac thing looks amazing though. i'm sure m$ is going to kick themselves after a wwdc demo.
 
Don't know if it;s true but a web based office suite makes sense and gets over syncing problems. Would it work with wifi EDGE or both.

Wil they do a plug in keyboard accessory, I wonder howe easy its going to be using its keyboard to type? Could multi touch be used to write the letters on the screen using your fingers like early pda's
 
I also tend to believe punkwaffle. He(?) accurately predicted the 5-year exclusive deal on the iPhone back in February.

Besides, from Steve's comments at D I think it is pretty clear that .Mac will be replaced/integrated with Google apps. He seemed to really stress how significant web apps are while also saying .Mac is overdue for an overhaul. It would seem pretty logical to include them on the iPhone. I'm curious how this will affect iWork - will it be replaced, or somehow tightly integrated with Google apps?

Regarding GPS - based on the rather humorous response in the AT&T training manual to this question ("Thanks for the feedback...) it would seem likely that it will be in at least the 2G iPhone.
 
While it is likely (at least partly) going to happen...I call pure speculation...

He also made comments about web OSs...implying he's not in the business of making one...

While I always doubt uncredited secret info (especially this close to a Jobs speech), I think punkwaffle has at least made a very intelligent guess. There's obviously a big .mac upgrade coming in time for Leopard and perhaps for iPhone. You don't just give the push e-mail piece to Yahoo and leave .mac customers stranded and ripped off. Something's up with iWork. Google and Apple have a giddy friendship at the moment that could be going a dozen different directions. If all he's done is connect the dots and take a stab at a solution, it's an intelligent one. All I'd throw in is some kind of voice-to-text feature in the iPhone ... write a Word-compatible doc while you drive to work. Call it the iThirtycarpileup.

The other clue about what's up that no one has focused on is this -- why did Apple need to pull software engineers off Leopard to work on the iPhone? Either they just made that up to save face, or there was a feature they are working on in Leopard that needs to be on the iPhone. You don't just pull software engineers working on specific problems off a job so they can fight fires.

This rumor/wild guess would make sense in this context ... a major .mac overhaul that somehow incorporates iWork and relies on Google docs could be part of both Leopard and the iPhone and Jobs made a executive decision that it was more important to get it on the iPhone first.
 
i think it is a pretty logical scenario. one of the main thoughts i've had is why hasn't apple discussed iPhone+.Mac, it would seem obvious that Apple would want a connection other than "well theoretically you can access your .Mac email because the iPhone supports IMAP and POP". There is so much more room for advancements that would pull the consumer to want the iPhone+.Mac, and since Jobs has made so awkward comments about the state of .Mac, it seems like this or something just as amazing with both products is coming, and plus thinking about it, you can technically still be a Windows user and find some benefits from .Mac, that might be a new market to target.

Right ... and there's a Trojan Horse element to .mac that isn't widely discussed -- EVERYONE who has iTunes has a .mac address already. What if Apple announced that .mac is now free? All those iTunes customers would now have it. And if it then linked into some cool features that required the iPhone and Leopard, it becomes a powerful reason to buy and switch.
 
.Mac and GMail

At this point I would settle for .Mac mail turning your GMail account into IMAP with Push support. GMail is, I think, the best email, and the only thing missing is Push support with iPhone.
 
Some more tidbits:

AT&T edge has been upgraded or is currently upgrading in most areas of the country to switch to a faster connection when it sees an iPhone trying to pull data. This is very spotty at best right now.

Expect an iChat client when Leopard is released in October. Until then, meebo on the web.

Apple bluetooth bundle will be discounted when purchased with the iPhone.

There WILL be a GPS option available at a later date for 1ST GENERATION IPHONES via bluetooth connection. Big news, at least for me.

All instore demo iphones will be online via wifi DSL connections. Only the store demo iPhones have access to the wifi signals as they are identified with MAC addresses.

Future update to software will include ability to control your mac (and only macs, not pcs) via a very sophisticated, but simple control panel when on your home wifi. Example: When you come home and get onto your own wifi, you will be able to have certain tasks automatically begin (playing itune playlist, syncing voicemails, new contacts, or transferring calls to your mac's speakers) This will be in a future firmware update.

That's all i got and probably will have for a while until next week.

All these make sense. GPS device as the new Nike movement device. Remote control of AppleTV etc with iPhone.
 
even if all of this is BS, i'm liking the creativity with the info...keep it up, punkwaffle! :D

???

I don't understand your claim here. There are plenty of Windows people out there who don't have .Mac, but are happily downloading songs on iTunes. I don't think they have any kind of .Mac account. Or Mac-users, either. (I have my iTMS account linked to my gmail account rather than .Mac, for instance.)
