Maybe there is "number that is no longer reasonable" limit, where it completely blocks after a large number of failed attempts.
Can you post back with what the "genius" does for you?

So I'm not really sure what it involved, but I brought the computer in, showed a receipt for the purchase. The Apple employee took the mini in the back for 25 or 30 minutes, came back and said ther are no more passwords on it.

He did say there was a firmware pwd, which is the one I'm sure I was getting correct, and a FindMyMac pwd which it never allowed me to even attempt to enter.

But, good news is that it works now.

Good to hear that you have your mini back - and you can now use it again!

Thanks. It's been a long road to getting it back and then having to get it working again. The employee did say they don't see too many computers people lock out and then actually recover. Makes me wonder if once it's locked you just have to bring it in to be unlocked.
