You're also assuming here that someone is going to keep the package, even knowing that it isn't theirs. That isn't putting much faith in people to do the right thing. I mean, you never know if someone will do the right thing or not here. Assuming that they do, and you follow everyone's advice here and make Costco send you out a replacement Mac for the one that was lost, what happens when that person gets you back the lost Mac? Wouldn't that make you the thief for having two separate Macs, one of which was paid for?

But as others have said, there is nothing that Apple will do on this, because they didn't directly sell you the Mac. Costco did. And Costco is normally upon this and what to do, especially with not only wanting to keep the sale (that's a huge chunk going to them), but also in keeping your MEMBERSHIP as well. If they are telling you that there is nothing that can be done, you need to escalate that issue up higher in their customer service department, because that is something that they are responsible for. If they could not deliver a product they sold to you in good faith, then they are obligated to either send you a replacement unit, or refund your money. You need to take this up directly with Costco.

Come on as we know lost in post means someone has stolen it … I Just find it hard to believe that Costco doesn’t have the serial

No. It doesn't. Lost in post means that it is lost in the post. Somewhere along the way logistics was lost on it and the parcel is missing. that in no way means that someone maliciously "stole" your package. You have no proof of that happening, and can only assume that it has. that still doesn't take away the fact of what would happen if someone were to find your package and get it to you after you have replaced it. Does that make them the thief for being the good samaritan? By your logic and reckoning above, because they are in possession of it, they are the "thief". Nice job on blaming them for doing the right thing, and we wonder why we have a problem with not believing in humanity.

What they will have is the number to track the package, as well as the information on the parcel. But what is more important now: trying to find it so you can blame a "thief" for having your package (if it was stolen), or getting made whole again by getting your replacement and having them track down the package for you? Costco is responsible for the logistics of the package until it reaches your front door. You need to get hold of them and put them and your membership to work for you to find it, or get them to send you a replacement ASAP, or get you a refund. With Costco being an international company, you know they will do all that they can to not only not lose your business, but receive bad press from the incident.

Get your money back and be done with Costco. That is the priority not the rabbit hole you want to dive into.

The problem here though is that he won't be completely done with Costco, unless he cancels his membership. If he wants to do that, then it's on him to do so, but I agree that he should either:
  • Get Costco to do the grunt work for him and track down his package and ensure delivery of it,
  • Get Costco to send out a replacement Mac to his specifications and ensure delivery of that Mac, or
  • Get Costco to refund his money to either repurchase it or purchase it from another retailer, or directly from Apple.
Anything else is just venting useless frustration at the wall and hope that the proverbial poo sticks to it, let alone accusing people of something that may or may not have happened. If those options aren't taken, it's his lost money.
