Numerous spelling errors, hokey web design, all accessories out of stock, brand new ibook 12" for 799$...

What do you guys think of this? is this company for real? Great prices but the old saying "if it sounds to good to be true" probably applies here.

Prices seem to good to be true. Unless the prices have just dropped down. But I am sure that would have been the buzz around here if that just happen. But I would wait to see what others have to say before buying.

does seem like a good deal, a REALLY good deal(i.e to good to be true)

I doubt a 20'' display could be 529 when apple sells a 799

Wow, they're still selling new Power Mac G4s! That's pretty deep stock for a site that opened three weeks ago

in their defense, unlike most fly by night companies, there is a physical address listed, as well as a phone number. Call it, if it works then it could be legit. If its disconnected like some sites offering xbox 360s for 259, then its prolly a scam.

Bogus. Apple has strict pricing guidelines for their products. An authorized Apple dealer cannot sell a new 12" iBook for $799.

At the risk of suggesting too much homework, I'd read at least some of the sticky post at the top of this forum on fraudulent sellers.

Many have been burned by sites that had real-looking addresses and telephone numbers.

The biggest tip off for me is under payment options:
1. Cashier's checks and money orders
2. Wire transfers
3. Oh, yeah, and major credit cards - Wanna bet there will be a problem with your card, so they recommend options 1 or 2?

AVOID!

Ther registrar, Register.com, makes it very difficult to get whois information. They block outside Whois gateways, and they load the registrant info as an image rather than text. Here it is anyway. Domain registered Dec. 29 2005 with a throwaway yahoo address.

"Mac & Mac Sales has been in business for 8 years" They are, of course, not on Apple's list of Authorized resellers for Boca Raton, FL or as an authorized Internet reseller. For someone who has been in businiess 8 years, they have zero feedbacl on resellerratings.com and epinions.com (consistent with them having only opened 18 days ago.) They have spammed the free press release sites with their own press releases. The phone number, (561) 282-0454 in West Palm Beach, is not registered in a reverse lookup (not unusual for a cell phone or private phone company number.) There are a number of businesses at that address 551 NW 77th Street , none which are obviously connected to a Mac sales outfit.

Someone calling themselves Dan Osborne has been spamming other forums with advertisements saying that this site has MacBooks available now (As if)

Stuck in the middle with you
I don't know why anybody would buy from that site. I tried checking out, and it ends up that you have to mail the invoice to them and either write down your CC info or send a check.

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here. Typing "whois macmacsales.com" into Terminal produces the same information as in that graphic.

Ah OK, better luck than I had. DNSStuff was blocked, ARIN.net was blocked, if you do a whois at register.com directly, you're challenged for an alpha code then it generates a JPG file instead of text.

is this the same guy who was running the "mac whiz" scam operation then?

alot of the content on that site looks very similar to what was on the mac whiz site - like "how they keep their prices so low"

I sincerely hope we're all wrong, for your sake. Could you try cancelling the order somehow (unlikely I know)

Has the machine arrived or are you still waiting on it? I saw this site too and thought about ordering. the prices were great. I hope you did not not get yanked into a scam.

has anyone noticed that ultratonic 1 and gordonwebd have only made one post in macrumors and they are in this thread? i remember in the mac whiz thread, we preseumed it was the person who set up the site that kept appearing as different people and endorsed the site for their escellent service?

i dont know if these two people are in this category, but if gordonwebd suddenly comes back saying i have recieved my ibook, excellent service, maybe we should take their comments with a pinch of salt? maybe if they are this person behind the site, then they will not come and say it as i have said what they might have done and then come back as yet another new member saying how great it is?

just my thoughts. be careful with sites like this - if it looks too good to be true, it USUALLY is.

Ahh... just like old times. Those posts on mac whiz were my introduction to this site as I was shopping for my own pb. I bought a refurb from a brick and mortar apple specialist, and I would highly recommend it. It's nice having real people you can talk with.

IF YOU BUY ONLINE PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD! NEVER-EVER-NEVER-EVER PAY BY MONEY ORDER OR WIRE MONEY. Simple as that really.

Russed, I noticed that too. Same pattern as macwhiz posts. Searching online for Mac Sales you can find several "press releases" about the company, so it sounds like they're trying to cover all the bases.

Hold on there!! Wait just a second!! I actually joined this forum because I too was doing some research on this site because I want an iMac G5. when I saw this thread I felt that should ask around to see what's up. I was VERY close to ordering from these clowns. I am not an 'agent" for mac whiz. I'm a mac owner who lives in CT not FL and is on a budget with a dying G4 imac.

I wouldnt order from them.

They are selling macs cheaper then any place out there... and apple has some sort of structure on that.

Plus, I personally think that are trying to scam off of a domain name that is real close to a well established mac upgrade retailer.

But thats my .02

So apple will not allow "new" machines to be sold at a price lower than what they dictate to the reseller? Is it a contract or something? BTW I called and got a voice message saying that due to the hugely popular free shipping offer, they will not take phone orders. Why?
