The fact that imacs and mac pros are available is neither here nor there. The mac mini was last updated a year ago, and apple declined to use the santa rosa chipset, despite the fact that it was available. So it was outdated the minute it was updated.
Now, a year later, it still uses a GMA 950 graphics processor, still can't take 4 GB RAM, and still maxes out at a 2 Ghz processor. Oh yeah - and it still costs the same, an utterly ridiculous $800 for that 2 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, and a 120 GB HD. Let's compare that to the $1100 macbook, which uses a faster penryn processor with the SR chipset, same RAM and HD, and - oh yeah - a display and keyboard because it's a freakin' laptop.
The point is that the mini's price is grossly out of line with its horribly outdated components - not what else is available from apple.
Another post that totally misses the point. Sales numbers? Who's talking about sales numbers? We're talking about Apple keeping its various product lines current/good values compared to both other apple products and other PC makers. Clearly, beyond any question, the mini is at the bottom of that list.
I have a particular interest here because I would be in the market for an updated mini, maybe 2 of them (one for the gf). I no longer need a laptop, so will be selling my macbook. But I have a great external mouse/KB/display/HD, but apple offers me no realistic option. The mac pro is far more powerful than I need and far more expensive than I want, and if I get the imac, a lot of my good peripherals go to waste. So I'd seriously consider the mini if it were even close to semi-current, but at this point it's just a joke.
