Bugaboo's

However, if you were ever to start ripping Blu-rays, yielding files of 30GB+ with bitrates of 40Mbps+, don't rely upon those files working flawlessly without re-encoding them. They *may* work (I've not used the 2010 Mini as an HTPC...)

Youve been told and a video posted to demonstrate that they do! Why do you persist in spreading mis information. You wanted Avatar m2ts "as a gold standard" as a demo u got it.

What, this...?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Jgg6guIcng

You've provided a video of Avatar running with (what looks like) two-channel standard definition AC3 audio for a matter of seconds at a time. The bitrate doesn't get above 37.3Mbps. What do you think you've proved by doing that? You're the engineer, here...

... and, if you read that post of mine that you quoted again, you'll see that I never said the 2010 Mini couldn't do it. I said that it *may* be able to. So, frankly, there was nothing for you to prove wrong in the first place.

Furthermore, you're the one doing the name-calling. I'm simply telling people how I see it. And consider the date on which I posted that, and compare it with the date on which you posted your (extremely inconclusive) video evidence. You're almost two weeks late, making that non-point of yours.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1029370/

I see also that you're now opening threads that other Macrumors regulars think are idiotic. And, apparently, their well-reasoned criticism of your posting makes them "trolls"... I dunno. Maybe there's a pattern, here.

EDIT: For God's sake, man. If you and I have a personal pissing contest to resolve, send me a private message so that we can do so without wrecking someone else's thread.

dh2000 is right. A straight Blu-ray rip with h.264 video and DTS-MA audio will, in all likelihood, choke any Mac Mini. They just don't have the horsepower to extract the DTS core on the fly while simultaneously decoding high bitrate h.264 video.

This post tells me several things. But the bottom line as Im in a rush my Avatar file comes in at 41.4 gig all I REPEAT ALL, audio streams are intact.
Which means DTS is passed through to my amp.

Anymore info u req pics videos posting please make my day ....

Try keeping to fact not speculative fiction

No need to be so childish and self-defensive. You were the one insisting that other people were blind because the video evidence that you provided was apparently so water-tight. Maybe you should try keeping to the facts - the facts that you have presented.

If you weren't so quick to get your knickers in a twist and call people names, this might actually have been a worthwhile and informative conversation. It could be still, if you calm down a little.

I'm wondering about buying 2x2 Go instead of the actual 2x1 Go. Any idea ?

Thanks

Sure, in principle. More RAM is a good thing. But compare what Apple will charge you for that upgrade with the price of buying and fitting the RAM yourself. The 2010 Mini has an easy-access route to the RAM sockets on the underside of the machine.

@nemrod - Get the basic 2GB model and upgrade yourself. It's much cheaper. Don't know which country you're in but here in Spain, pccomponentes.com sell Mac RAM cheap. Just make sure you get the right type!

By the way, in reply to your original enquiry: I've got the latest Mini with 4GB RAM. Like another poster, I run a combination of SAB, NZB and Plex. I'm in the market for a decent, mirrored RAID system and will probably go for a Synology DS410, which can take up to 4x 2TB disks.

So far, I'm finding it hard to think of a more perfect little HTPC than the Mac Mini, though it's obviously not cheap. Thing is: the size, design, HDMI and then a full OS X experience: it's an unbeatable combination. I say, go for it!

Yes but, as said before, i have the mini now so i won't pay it @ Apple price.

Okay. In that case, yeah, buy some more RAM and add it yourself. Good idea.

That was my point, initialy, but right know i don't know, the mini seems to manage it with the 2 Gb. In need more tests.

Another point, do you have any idea regarding a 2 disks enclosure ? Indeed, i have a 1 disk enclosure AluIce, fanless, good design but i'm running out of space.

The 2 disk enclosure seems to be noisy and the only one i found is this one :

It's an expensive one :(

Euh yes :) but if you look at my post i'm looking for silent one, i don't think a 4B is the right choice.

And by the way, a less expensive for me after a new Mac Mini and few other things :D

I didn't finf any tests of Icy Box, what about the quality ?

I did look at your post. I was merely making a slightly 'off reservation' suggestion, in case you hadn't considered it. If silence is your endgame, you should abandon magnetic hard drives altogether.

Icy products are typically of a decent build-quality, but you should seek out specific reviews of anything that interests you. I'm sure whatever you can buy will've been reviewed somewhere.

I have two 1,5 Tb of data, magnetic hard drive is the only solution i see.

By the way, the AluIce with WD GC is extremely quiet. The point is to find a 2B.
