A friend of mine connects his MBP to his HDTV via DVI-to-HDMI (ridiculous sentence...!). He says the image is great. And I'm hoping so, because that's my very same plan for the Mini.

Apple will only give us a 2.66GHz "super mini."

While I won't say I'm "anxiously" awaiting for a new Mini, I will agree with you on this matter. Apple needs to stop treating the mini like it's not worth their time. Since it's the only affordable headless machine it could be a lot better. I wouldn't mind if it was a little bigger to accommodate an Quad Core desktop i5 with a dedicated 512MB GPU and 1TB 7200 HDD with SSD option and up to at least 8GB ram.
I've checked with Dell's version of the Mac mini, sure the specs suck on the Dell but just because the current Mac mini is much better, it doesn't mean Apple couldn't do better with the mini.

There are several ways to connect a HDTV to a Mac mini depending on which cables and adapters you have. The mini comes with a mini-DVI to DVI adapter. So you can use a DVI to HDMI cable with it. Or you can get a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI cable. I've tried both and the picture is equal using both methods. Some people use DVI to VGA but I haven't tried that. (I thought VGA was analog anyway.)

If I had to guess, I'd say no new mini until at least late 2010 (in time for Christmas) or early 2011.

That is an outragiosly long time. A year or more? I don't think so. June-August 2010 seems more like it. Unless they update it with the new Mbp's (hopefully teusday).

It took Apple a year and half to upgrade the Mac Mini from intel graphics to Nvidia graphics. So it could take them a year, or more.

I would be surprised if they let it stagnate like that right now. This is one model that Apple actually uses to compete with low-end PC desktops, and even in that market the specs just look weaker and weaker right now, with the major core-related upgrades taking place.

Upgrades for the Mac mini have come in the range of five to 19 months.

I think it all depends on processors and what's available for the entire Mac lineup. The mini will remain at the bottom of the line, so when iMacs and MacBook Pros can be upgraded to the point where the mini can be upgraded and still be a step below, that's when it will happen.

I'm not particularly anxious for a "super-mini" because it would be more expensive. I like the price range it's in now and wouldn't want to pay closer to $1000 for a Mac mini. Desktop computers just aren't worth that much to me anymore, and the mini is plenty fast as is, IMO.

Man it's not a low end price. For the 799 that the 2.53 costs, you could build a PC machine that rivals the iMac/Mac Pro's. It's a REALLY terrible value. Very embarrassing IMO.

You could easily build a P55 i5/i7 for around that price.

Yes you can, but is it the same size as the mini? The same low noise. And the same design?

The mini has always been something fairly unique, dell and others have tried to make something similar, but it's nearly always far bigger and just as expensive.

Do you think  will make the next Mac Mini sans the oyster feature?

ie. you don't have to take a screwdriver to it to open it up??

I would like to see 3+ghz minis with a decent graphics option. That
is pretty much all I am hoping for right now. I have a 2.26 ghz mini
that I upgraded and love it, I use it in my design and other classes even.
When I do jump, it's going to be for at least a 3.06ghz mini with (hopefully)
a better graphics option and 8 gigs of ram. I may put an SSD drive in it
too. We'll see. Then this Mini is going under my tv.
=)
the 9400M is a decent graphic option, as the GPU integrated in Arrandale cpu are going to show us ;)
I think that Apple will use a low-end i5 in the new revision of the Mini, but only by end-2010 ....

the market in which Apple's Mini is placed is populated with crap Atom based computer, so it's perfectly fine with the current setup.

So go buy one ...

And let us know if it has the same form factor/power consumption/aesthetic of the Mini ;)
It's not all about the money ...

I love the "you could build" rationale for not buying a mini. However, I paid my $$$ and was up and running in 30 minutes with Plex and requisite applications for fleshing out a HTPC setup.

Works flawlessly, plays everything I've thrown at it so far; hands down worth the money put in despite being able to get "better" for what I paid. The real question should be can you build the same for less (performance, size factor, and OS X compatibility)?

The minis maker is filled with intel atoms? I don't think so. With the 599 you spend on a mac mini you can get an i3 with 6 gigs of ram and a terabyte hard drive. That is not an atom.

The Mac Mini is quiet, small, and powerful. Who cares if you can easily build an i5 PC for a cheaper price. If you want a cheap mac, get the Mac Mini. Not everyone needs the newest in technology and for many people, the Intel Core 2 Duo line is still more than enough for our needs.

Check the buyers guide. It took Apple 1.5 years to upgrade the Mac Mini from Intel graphics to Nvidia graphics. That is somewhere near a year. Don't go to this forum just to troll and bash.

And with the i3 you get crappy intel graphics.

Hostile much?

If you look at the last update in October, it was a mere 6 months after the previous release. Going by this logic we will see a new version in April~May which is what I believe (soon after the new MacBook Pros which are very imminent ;)).

Apple neglected the Mini for several years but that period is over. They realize the importance of this model and won't likely let it suffer again. Not everyone wants to toss their existing monitors to get a new computer that is inextricably tied to the display (me!).

Hahaha...I love how people actually defend the price of the mini because it's small. Who cares that you can get a machine more powerful than the iMac 27 for a similar price?

A lot of people.

For a bunch of you it's ONLY about style. For many professionals it's about what results you can attain. You know, work? An Arrandale based mini would be great.

All may be true. What's also true is that one has never been able to get a Mac that's on par with a PC, performance-wise, for the same price. Some of us aren't worried about it. Others like to make a big deal about it.

cant get a mac on par with a pc performance wise for the same price... lol.
thats probably because no pc makers try to sell a laptop for 2500 dollars and have it only have a c2d.

for the 2299 that you would spen at bestbuy to get a mbp with a c2d you could get an alienware with a core2quad 4 gigs ddr3, 17 inch screen, and a 500 gig hdd.

so those two are the same on pretty much everything except for the mbp having a slow processor.

oops forgot this was a mini thread. oh well the point still remains

I don't see such a difference between an i3 and a Core2Duo, and as I said before, it's not all about money ...
