Mac Mini 2012, 2.3 GHz vs 2.6 GHz noise?

Hi martinm0, thanks for the info! I'd be interested to hear how you are finding the fan noise in general over the weekend, as you mentioned. From what you're saying, it's quiet when not doing things like Handbrake?

Hmm... that's a bit worrying to hear... although it does seem like most other posters have found the 2.3 (and also the 2.6) to be quiet when only using things like a text editor, Safari, or email. I wonder what's causing the difference in your case?

I didn't get as much time as I wanted to test the mini this weekend, but with normal usage (Safari, iTunes, RDC, iPhoto all running at the same time) I didn't see the fan budge past the min fan speeds of 1800 rpms. The mini is fairly silent (not as much as the 2012 iMac), but that most likely was the HDD (I had been using an external SSD in the iMac). I'm running the SSD now externally with the Mini and its still pretty much silent. The noisiest part of tech in my collection is my Lacie 2big Thunderbolt external, so the mini is perfectly silent with that running on the desk next to it.
