Thanks. That was interesting. So the Mini will be limited to a degree. I just want to run games at FullHD at High Quality. Games like Civ5, WoW, SC2, upcoming D3. Not a HC gamer by any means.

Since playing WoW on my 2.5 amd with 4gb ram & 5400rpm hd, I have been playing with all settings on "high" except particle density and texture detail on Ultra, getting fps around 20-30, usually in lower-mid 20's. This is at 1920x1080. Some people might prefer settings between Fair and High if they prefer more of a 35-45 fps average.

I am curious to see how 8gb ram could help. Also trying to wrap my brain around the hard drive options available (cant believe they didnt give us a 7200rpm for the extra 200 bucks!)

Thank you for your insights.

The average turnaround on the Mini is just under nine months. The last cycle was conspicuously long, without doubt, but the two previous refreshes came after less than eight. I have the feeling that February/March 2012 won't be so wide of the mark... but we'll see.

Punters have been asking for a gaming Mini for a while, and I think Apple are beginning to listen. If the 6630M model sells well, I reckon we might see a more feisty card in the next lineup.

At least, I hope so!

I have to say the 2011 Mini with the AMD Radeon GPU is likely going to be a stop gap for me until the next one comes out. If there is a significant jump in specs especially if the VRAM in the GPU is bumped up to 512MB or possibly even 1GB then I will definitely upgrade again.

I would get a decent Windows desktop or upgrade the one I have now which hasn't been turned on in almost 2 years but I refuse to go back to a Windows machine for my computer uses. I will settle for the Mini with a Windows partition under Bootcamp to play certain games I can't under Mac OS.

Fair enough. I can't cope with Windows as a working environment anymore; hence, I ditched my PC laptop and bought an MBP three months ago.

I'm hoping that, at some point, the graphics card in the Mini becomes sufficiently grunty so that it can run semi-modern games well at 1080p: given that I would be connecting it to an HD TV, it wouldn't need to go any higher than that. Plus, it would remove the need for me to replace my iMac for gaming purposes - as a productivity machine, it'd be fine for years - which would actually save me a s**tload of money. And how often is it that you can credit Apple with saving you money...?!

I shall continue to watch the Mini very closely. It's definitely becoming a machine that I'm interested in...
