The thick of it
I just received a curious e-mail from Apple:

Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the following item(s)
by the date that you were originally quoted:

MC816LL/A, MAC MINI 2.5/2X2GB/500/AP/BT-USA
will now ship on or before
Sep 12, 2012

It was ordered late last month and was supposed to have shipped at that time. It never appeared in my online ordered product list. What I find curious is the date on which it supposedly will ship. Could this mean a new Mac Mini announcement on the 12th as well? Or is it just a coincidence?

Just went through the ordering process on the same box, it's offering a delivery (not shipping, delivery) date of September 11.

Apple has a well established track record at delaying shipment dates when an product refresh is imminent. It is likely that there will be a new Mac mini unveiled next week.

However, it is also likely that the announcement will be in the form of a written press release and that it would not be part of the live media event.

While the arrival of a new Mac mini is pleasing to potential buyers, as a product announcement it's really not worth covering in a live event. After all, it's basically a headless 13" MacBook.

As we get closer to 12/9, there is a good chance any delay (for whatever reason) will coincide with that particular date for shipment. Which obviously has assumed greater significance for obvious reasons. In my experience (and I acknowledge this is anecdotal) 1 in 4 macs that I have ordered directly from Apple have had a delay of some sort.

Just wanted to post an update. My Mini is still listed as "Available to ship: 3 to 5 business days." It's said that for nearly a week, but the delivery date keeps creeping up. It first said delivery was going to be between September 20-24. Now it might be delivered by October 2.

just yesterday I wondered what happened to your mini. but for now I'm not really convinced about mini update, it's 50/50, there are many stores (including Apple online store) that offer mini's delivery in 2-3 business days so maybe it's just not stocked in your area.

would be interesting to hear from other people who ordered mini as well but those who come here aren't probably ordering any.

Oh, this promising thread...forgot about it, too. The fact that jayducharme lives in the hinterlands could very well be the reason.

Well, here's still (little) hoping for a silent refresh.
