Here's an idea Apple. For the new Minis, more colors. Not just silver, grey, dark grey, space blue or whatever the frak new name for grey color there is. Also not just black or white. Give me colors. You used to be able to do this. Orange, yellow, red, green, blue, COLORS! OR COLOURS!

As for the iMac. How about not just colors but also a 27 inch model? It's not 2006 any more. We can tolerate larger screens.

I run my home automation software and eight outdoor security video cameras 24/7 with a 2019 Intel Mac Mini. I'm so looking forward to an M4 Mini with faster video processing and much lower power dissipation. My current Mini does get pretty warm simultaneously processing eight hi-rez video streams (along with everything else).

If it's the same size or smaller it'll make no difference to me. As long as I have no fewer USB-C ports and a 10 gigabit ethernet port option. A extra (or two) USB-C ports on the front would be nice for when I need to hook a laptop/display up to it and when I need to do backups.

I, for one, am excited about this. Was going to wait until the next Mac Studio in 2025 but the Fusion drive in my 2014 iMac 5K which was my music machine just went kaput so I need a new machine now.

MacInsiderPro posted a leaked new groundbreaking rendering of the new M4 Mini

The logo icon is too large in relation to the machine. Just wrong. Whoever made this either doesn't understand whitespace, or rushed it to get something out.

I recall the second-generation Mac mini have an equally-annoying design flaw where the power light was way too close to the edge. Such a shame when such details are overlooked, or unseen by those making the decisions.

My question here is why does the Mac Mini have to be smaller? It's a desktop machine. I'd rather it stay the current size and maintain better thermal performance and also not have all the cables plugged into it crowded together in a huge mess that ends up dragging the machine around.
I totally agree. Honestly, I would’ve preferred a thinner design (given how much free space there is in the M1 model already), while this render looks like a compressed Mac Studio (whose design I truly don’t like).

Are people really excited that the Mac mini being redisgned to be smaller will inevitably mean the continuation of Tim Cook's corporate greed-based anti-consumer decision to prevent the entire Macintosh line from having upgradable memory and hard drives?

I wish Apple would completely rethink the Mac mini and make it stackable.

  • 2024 - Buy your first Mac mini.
  • 2025 - Buy the next Mac mini, not to replace your original, but to supplement it. Just stack on top and plug it in with a single cable for all power and communications. It becomes part of the "mesh".
  • 2026 - Repeat.
Over time, you get a more and more powerful computer, not by replacing, but upgrading incrementally.

That's the opportunity that Apple has here.

Love it!

What is the use-case for a smaller Mini? A pocket Mac?

Apple selling a "new mini" at "the same great price"... PLUS "a hub" to buy back classic ports for those who need them. You might even need some kind of docking add-on to keep it heavy enough to stay on a desk when it has cables plugged into it.

More 💰💰💰 is the use case. Shareholders have to feed their families. ;)

There are SO MANY other applications that a smaller form factor Mac Mini could be used for. I have personally used it back on 2012 as on on board multi media info/entertainment system for two autobiles. A little clunky, a little learning curve but after some tinkering and more tinkering and some software that was clutch then, It was an amazing concept. I'm sure that I am not the only one to have conceived the idea... And if I am, I just F**KED up, I've said too much.🤣 😂 EVERY and ANYONE was impressed. So while you are correct, "it's a desktop machine" think outside box Padwan learner.

I'd think a raspberry pi is better suited to such applications.

Because if it didn't change there would be an equal amount of complaining about how it didn't change and how Apple is no longer capable of innovation.

We could have a Beowulf Cluster of Minis
