Gigatoaster, for years now I've used various Mac models as my 'everything' machine (as both my sole computer and also audio and video server to my combined two channel/5.1 system). I just ordered the new Mac Mini, and in addition to using it for audio work and some video work, I will be using it with Roon, and to output video Blu-ray and DVD rips to my Emotiva surround processor (and TV), in addition to the usual Youtube and Netflix watchin'.

I don't yet have Roon as I've been (barely) getting by with BitPerfect, which has been a bit buggy with the more recent versions of Mac OS. Anyhow, thus far I've been using USB to output audio to my DAC (but through a Schiit Wyrd first), but I'm going to try out the JCAT FEMTO USB card in an OWC Helios 3 enclosure, along with an Audio-GD DAC that's also en route. I like that the new Mini has an HDMI 2.0 port buil-in. Some Mini Displayport to HDMI adapters can create hiccups between my Mac and the receivers/surround processors I've used. On a side note, the most recent Audioquest Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter (the "4K" version) has been the most reliable thus far, and it also can handle the much higher bitrate lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio streams just fine.

Anyhow, I've had friends also question why I don't just get an Apple TV, but it's so great having the flexibility of using a full blown computer. I use a Magic Trackpad and wireless keyboard when sitting on my couch, and anyhow, I could get into further detail but I'm sure you get the idea.

Apparently you can't play 4k HDR with the new Mac mini, that sucks.
[doublepost=1541319236][/doublepost]Maybe Apple TV 4K with Infuse can?

So it appears that the best would be a NAS with Apple TV 4K + Infuse.

Does anyone tried this on 4K HDR files?
