I'd go for the i7, but for RAM (to save some money) maybe a single 16G 2666 MHz to mix with the Apple 8GB which gives you 24GB total. You save the $140 (approx) for when the price of the 16GB or 32GB chip comes down - then slip it into the Apple 8GB's slot.
If that works out and 32GB chip comes down to $140 then ya got a 48GB machine.

Only argument for that route is if 24GB is not enough for now.

I may not be understanding if mixing sizes could cause a problem.

My question to all of you who got the i7 over the i5 - since both are 6 cores, and for music production in mind; Did you get it for longevity's sake and ease of mind? Or because it actually makes a big difference (and if so, how much of a difference are we talking about)?

Not trying to diminish or question your choice, I'm just curious :)
