Or emulation (Parallels, etc) and Office for Windows. You'd still have Mac hardware and mainly Mac apps.

I am not sure that she will utilize bootcamp, but it is an option. However, you may have responded to the other forum member and if so, then ignore my reply. :D

I would also look at the Apple Refurbished store for a Mac Mini. You can get them for $100 off.

OP should check regularly, several times a day, if he is actually ready to buy one. The refurbed Mini's sell out very quickly (if you see one - buy it, it won't be there a few hours later).

Wait for a refresh.

Current models are extremely over priced for what you get. Even if they were $200 cheaper.

Also, is anything worth the manufacturer's asking price? Food for thought.
Computer prices are much cheaper for alot more power than you could get a few years ago (I suppose that's always true). Apple is very overpriced to upgrade the options on their website store.
  • Your mom won't notice a difference in CPU power, so get the 2.4GHz model.
  • Get minimal ram and swap in your own (unscrew the bottom and it's right there).
  • You can also swap in an SSD for your mom (lots of folks have). Helpful guide here and if you pick up your SSD here, you can get all the tools you need to install it (click on the size you need and you'll see the tools pictured).
If your mom likes her new monitor, the Mac mini is the way to go. You can run OSX or Windows or both. Also, if your mom does not like it, you get 30 days to return it for a full refund (minus shipping).

Thank you for the informative reply. We have not shopped, as we plan to do so this weekend. I am not sure my mom wants a Mac. I told her I would help with the bill, but she wants to spend less than 500.00 USD before my "discount." Nonetheless, this thread was helpful and I hope it can help another person who plans to buy a Mac Mini for their mom or dad etc.. Again, I appreciate the response as the links and the money saving techniques are helpful! :)

Thanks to those who contributed! :D
